Memorial Day

I can't believe it's here; the last day of May, aka Memorial Day. Make sure while sporting your red white and blue fabulous outfit to acknowledge any servicemen or women you see for their service to our country, and to remember all those who have been lost in service.

In addition, tomorrow is the first day of my internship! While I am very excited, I am quite nervous at the same time. Make sure to check back soon for more daily outfit posts, now that I am in possession of a working tripod yet again.

Words to live

"A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous"
-Coco Chanel

Oh Chanel. You always make everything sound so simple.

Anyways, I like this quote a lot. Primarily because it's the goal of my style, and blog. Although my motto is more glamorous and classy, fabulous is a good substitution.

Chicago Fire

Tank: American Eagle (from Plato's Closet)
Pants: Abercrombie and Fitch (from Plato's Closet)
Sweatshirt: borrowed from the roomie
Shoes (not shown): Steve Madden
Bag: Coach (from Clothes Mentor)
Sunglasses: Target
Yesterday night, Casey and I went to a Chicago Fire game. Above, is what I wore. I apologize for not getting a full outfit photo and for the poor photo quality, but we didn't have much time during the day to take one.

Anyways, today is my last full day out here, then its back to Maryland! I'm off to go spend my day basking in the sun, and going to a minor league baseball game.

Downtown Naperville

First, I would just like to apologize for the lack of posts as of recent. Throughout my trip, I have been pretty busy, and have not had too much time for updating. However, I am going to try to do a little better for the rest of the week.

Anyways, yesterday Casey and I went to downtown Naperville to do a little exploring. (some shots from the trip are above) In a way, it reminded me a lot of downtown Frederick, lots of cute little boutiques, chain stores, and nice restaurants. Surprisingly enough, I didn't buy anything! Well, at least not any clothing. I did end up getting a gelato from a shop because it was just too hot out. The gelato was called berry forest, and it was a mix of raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries. Oh man, was it a treat! It was so creamy, smooth, and decadent, and it really hit the spot.

So that was yesterday. Today, Casey and I are off to see a Chicago Fire soccer game. I am very excited, and it should be a lot of fun.

Plato's Closet

So far, today could not have been a better day. Why? Because I finally got to go shopping for the first time in a long time. (okay, since spring break) But still, yay!

My roommate took me to her favorite shopping destination in Naperville- Plato's Closet. Before Casey, I had never heard or seen this store. After meeting Casey, whenever I saw something that I liked that she was wearing, she almost always told me she bought it from Plato's Closet. Here's how the store works: basically, people can bring in gently used brand name clothing, shoes, handbags, and more for the store owners to look at and potentially purchase. This leaves the customer with rock-bottom prices! The dress for instance (my favorite find in the store), in the top left corner, was 6 dollars! However, the label was long gone, but I couldn't care less. It looks like Lilly Pulitzer though, does it not? Plus, its reversible! The one side show in the picture is a small floral print, while the reverse is a larger floral print. I am sure you will see both sides within the near future.

My second favorite find of the day- the bag. I had been telling Casey that I was looking for a new tote bag for school, and she took me to a similar store next door where she thought I would find a nice one, except the store was for older women. While I didn't find exactly what I was looking for, I stumbled upon this gorgeous vintage Coach bag. I was beyond excited. Then, I realized I was going to have to look at the price....15 dollars! What a steal. So, I got the bag too, even though I didn't need it. However, I think it will be a great complement to all my summer dresses, because of it's relaxed style and simplicity.

Whoo, I think that's it for now. What a great day!

Movie Inspiration: Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2

Yesterday, I arrived in Illinois, where I will be staying with my roommate from college for the entire week! After hanging out in downtown Chicago and eating delicious food, we decided to wind down by watching the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.

While watching, I became transfixed on studying all of the characters outfits. Each girl had a completely different style from the rest, but they were all a very good representative of their personality. However, my favorite character in this movie for fashion inspiration was Lena. She has a style much like my own, very feminine, girly, delicate, and polished. I always liked all the colors she wore throughout the film, a lot of shades of blue, creamy white, and various hues of red. In addition, all of her clothing had intricate detailing of some sort: funky buttons, lace trim, or ribbon accents. Finally, I just can't get over her loose waves that she wore with almost every outfit; hopefully one day I will be able to achieve the same look.

So, to the point of this post. I was so inspired by Lena's look in the SOTTP that I decided to make a Lena inspired Polyvore set.

Everything is everything, but you're missing.

Top (borrowed from my mom): Michael by Michael Kors
Skirt: BCBG Max Azria
Shoes: Steve Madden
Belt: Gap
Sunglasses: Target
Bag: Longchamp
I have quite the busy day ahead of me today! On the itinerary, heading to the grocery store (check), making cupcakes (check), packing for visiting my roommate, cleaning the basement, cleaning my room, and having friends over for a small get together tonight. Whew.

Anyways, so if you didn't know already, I try to only dress for one activity during the day. So even though I am going to be cooking and cleaning for a good part of the day, I am wearing this the entire day so I don't have to change a bunch of time. Favorite things about this outfit? My new sunglasses- I finally replace the other Target ones I broke about a month ago- and the bag! Many of you don't know this, but I am huge purse person! However, I don't use them at school because it is just too much to carry around with my tote bag. Hopefully you guys will be seeing more of my bags in coming post very soon.

Well, I am off to work on my to-do list. The music for today's title is from this (live and original)song. Inspired by 9/11, it has an absolutely beautiful message.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Summer Whites

Yesterday, I talked a lot about my love for the color coral, especially in the summer months. The only other color I think I could like more during this season is white. In the summer when every one is tan and glowing (fake, bien sur!) white makes every skin tone pop! Now, if you are like me and you don't tan at all, you can still wear summer white, just in a different way than most. For example, I love to wear nail polish, sandals, or jewelry in white, because it adds a small amount of summery freshness to my look without making me look like a pale ghost. The other thing I love about the color white in the summer, it can perfectly highlight whatever body part you want to! I guess you can say this on about any color that is flattering on you, but I just think white really plays to this part well. For instance, if you really like your legs, in the summer white shorts or a white skirt will make them look better than they already are. Or, if you are a tan goddess, considering wearing a white sundress to really emphasize your glowing skin. With all that being said, here are my favorite white pieces of the moment.

Yesterday in my hot list, I mentioned my love for coral. However, I didn't post any of the items I have been seeing in stores recently that inspired my re-found love for the color. So, I decided to make a polyvore set. This happens to work perfectly because I broke my tripod today, so there will not be any daily outfit posts for awhile. Or at least until Thursday, when I plan on getting a new one.

What's Hot...May

So, I decided to add another feature to my blog, to break up the monotony of the weekly quotes and the daily outfit posts. However, this one is only go to be monthly, I think.

What is this new post, you ask? Well, my personal favorite things of the month, essentially "Katrina's Hot List." It will most likely be a list of about 10 things that I am fascinated with each month, ranging from food, websites, make-up, clothes, books, music, etc, etc. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy- feel free to leave your own "hot list" in the comments section!

1. Häagen-Dazs Raspberry Sorbet
As the hot temperatures roll in across the east coast, and the humidity sets in, there is honestly nothing like a cup of this refreshing treat-especially when your parents refuse to turn on the air conditioner. Smooth, creamy, and entirely decadent, if you haven't already, you have got to try it! Although for ice cream it can be slightly costly, you can now buy it a most grocery stores in a single serving cup for about a dollar. (woo-hoo!)
Okay, I am sure most of you have either a) seen the show before b) have heard about the show before or c) are die hard gleeks. I, fall into the third category of this list, and just can't get enough of this show. What is not to love? Interesting fashion on from all the character, outstanding singing, and something different on television. Combined, these form the phenomena that is Glee. Tune in to Fox Tuesday's at 9 p.m. to watch! P.S-Here is my favorite song from Glee, thus far. Unfortunately, they don't have the versions from T.V online, so this will have to do.
3.2010 Nissan Rogue 360
Today, my family purchased a new car, the 2010 Nissan Rogue 360. Although primarily for my older brother, I get to drive it around too. This SUV is sleek, drives like a dream, is practical, and is great buy for your money. While I am sure no one is really in the market for a new car, you should definitely take a look at this if you are.

4.Stiff Upper Lip
This stuff is the absolute best, and I bet most of you haven't even heard of it! What is it, you say? Chapstick. Homemade by makers of all natural products, this chapstick will leave you with smooth lips in no time since it is made without petroleum or Vaseline. Plus, it won't break the bank like your La Mer chapstick does. Click here to buy your own tube. Unfortunately, you will have to buy online unless you are planning to go to a craft store with a Pretty Baby Soap distributor anytime soon.

5.O.P.I Shrek Collection
If you haven't heard already, O.P.I has released its newest collection-Shrek, and I love it. Now, the colors are a bit out there, but I love the fun and playful vibe they present. My favorite of the collection is the dark purple, Funkey Dunky, but the Ogre-the-top-blue comes in a close second. Definitely not something you're going to want to wear to your next business meeting, but something fun to wear on your toenails or when you are not in a professional environment.
6.Coral Anything
So this category is definitely a less specific than the others, but this definitely one of my favorite trends in the summer. I think coral is a universally flattering color on anyone, when worn properly, and just overall screams "SUMMER!" Although I don't have too many coral pieces, I am definitely interested in adding some more items to my ever growing wardrobe. and
These two food websites, discovered yesterday, are my new favorites. I am a huge lover of food, and well presented food. These two websites not only make me salivate, but so hungry! Usually, I just end up in the kitchen grabbing a bag of chips while dreaming about what delicious things I could be eating off the websites, but maybe I will soon be inspired to get in the kitchen and cook a little more? We'll see. I know my mom would love it if I did.

8.BCBG Summer Pre-Sale
As you can most likely tell from many of my daily outfit posts, I love BCBG. Plus, I can never pass up a sale, so when I received an email from BCBG yesterday morning with the word 'sale' in it, I instantly perked up. I haven't really had a chance to look through it yet, but soon I will. Or, I will head off to a factory store, where I can look in person. (which I prefer)

9.Best Friends by Martha Moody
My roommate lent me this right before we left for summer vacation, and I am still working on finishing up. But, from what I have read so far, I really like. Best Friends is the story of two college roommates who become best friends and go through everything together-from marriages, divorce, death and birth. It has some great plot twists as well, so I have been up late almost every night trying to finish this. I think it should be done by Tuesday, however.

10.Don't Worry Baby-The Beach Boys
You know when you hear a song and it reminds you of something? Whether it is your first kiss, a party you were at, or a season, we all have songs for these moments. Don't Worry Baby, by the Beach Boys is an oldie, but a goodie. Whenever it I listen to it, not only does it remind me of Deja Vu (it's played through most of the movie) but summer. Something about this song is so relaxing and calm, just like summer should be. The lyrics have been in my head for the past couple of days, so I knew I had to put it on this list.

Hope you guys enjoyed my hot list! Pin It

"Above all, remember that the most important thing you can take anywhere is not a Gucci bag or French-cut jeans; it's an open mind”
-Gail Rubin Bereny

Now, I could only dream about having a Gucci bag, or French-cut jeans, but, I know I can have an open mind. Whether it is with fashion, or in other aspects of life, I think it is very important to have an open mind. Without one, you can miss out on so many opportunities and chances, just because of fear, or another factor. Actually, closed-minded people are one of my biggest pet peeves. So, with that being said, try something new this week! Or, today even!

Festive Friday

Dress: Bailey 44
Belt (borrowed from mom): Chico's
Sandals: Steve Madden
Earrings: stolen from mom
Necklace (borrowed from mom): craft show
If there is one thing I love about being home, it is that my closet expands about 400 percent. Being the same size as your mom really does have some perks, honestly. So, when I packed to come home for a week, I hardly brought anything with me, other than essentials, because I knew I could just spruce up my outfits with my moms wardrobe. This is really a plus because I wanted to leave most of clothes at school so they will be clean in time for my internship.

Anyways, enough drivel. Today I am off to a surprise party for a friend who will be returning from study abroad, so I wanted to look better than I usually do in the summer. Actually, I really ended up liking this look a lot. Well, other than the fact I couldn't get a good picture of the back of this belt (it's patterned fabric woven together-very cool!) But other than that, I love how this dress is so versatile, and I can't wait until fall to pair it with my brown BCBG boots.

p.s-sorry for the weird squinted eyes thing...that's what my eyes usually end up doing in pictures without make-up.

Finally Done!

Well it's hard to believe, but after yesterday, yet another long semester is over. Finally.

Here is all I have to say: it went by way too fast. While the days surely didn't seem like it sometimes (late nights become early mornings when you are writing a paper very slowly,) the months have flown by, and summer is now here. On its itinerary for now, hanging out with the family for a week, flying out to see my roommate in Chicago for a week, then starting my internship at the end of May. It should be a very exciting summer.

In honor of my internship, I decided to create a little what i would love to wear to my internship polyvore set. A girl can dream right?

It feels like finals time

Sweatshirt: Victoria's Secret
Tank-Top: Juicy Couture
Pants: Delia*s
Sandals: Steve Madden
Sunglasses: Kate Spade
Necklace: Juicy Couture
Earrings: stolen from mom
Today, for many colleges around the nation, marks the beginning of finals week. Now, despite the fact that I do not have any finals today, yes, even I am wearing a sweatshirt. And no, it's not because I am lazy and lack creativity (well kind of) But, I am wearing it more for the sake of practicality. I have been studying or working most of today, in my room, where no can see me. There really isn't any big reason for me to get all dressed up for that, in my opinion. Also, today has been a very chilly day, and I like having a nice, appropriately sized sweatshirt to wear and keep me comfy. Anyways, while I am trying not to advocate the sweatshirt, I do not think there is anything wrong with it once and awhile, and said sweatshirt is not entirely over sized, or worn with sweatpants.

Oh, and my favorite part about this sweatshirt? Just check out the back-how cool is that! Okay, when I originally noticed the sweatshirt, I really liked the hot pink color. However, once I picked it up and saw the back-and that it was on sale- I knew I had to have it!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day mom! And to all the other mom's out there in the world too! Shown above, is my mom and I in NYC this winter, right before we went out to see Chicago. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything older on my computer, but oh well.

Anyways, my mom has always been one of my biggest fashion influences, no matter what, she always remains classy, sophisticated, and polished. Another one of my favorite things about her? She let's me borrow anything from her wardrobe that fits! (thankfully, we are the same size) In the picture above, I am only borrowing the shoes, I think. Nevertheless, besides being a huge style influence, my mom has always been there whenever I needed her, and is seriously the best mommy ever! I love you mom :)

"Fashion is made to become unfashionable."
-Coco Chanel

I don't think that this statement could be any more accurate. Then again, Chanel knows all in terms of fashion, so I think we kind of have to agree with her. Anyways, I really do think fashion is made to become unfashionable. One week hot pants and leather leggings are in, the next week they are out. Almost all trends are like this. However, some have more staying power then others, but still it is not for a very long time. For this reason, this is why I think it is important to have style, and not follow current fashions too seriously. With your own style, you can always look current and be yourself, whereas with fashion you look dated very easily and it is hard to stand out and be yourself.

Friday's Finest

Dress: BCBG Max Azria
Tank-Top: J. Crew
Sandals: Steve Madden
Earrings: Liz Claiborne
Sunglasses: Kate Spade
Okay, I honestly didn't think I could rave so long about the weather (see the last couple of posts) but I just can't get over it! Maybe it has something to do with that I was trapped inside for a week this year after a blizzard left Frederick in 3 feet of snow, or maybe I am just really just starting to appreciate every day as it is. Either way, I am happy to yet again be wearing a pretty dress.

What I love about this dress in particular is the fit. Like I mentioned a couple of days ago, fit is everything. This dress totally conforms to the odd shape of my body, and makes me look better than I usually do (in my opinion, at least) However, the A-line shape that this dress takes on usually works on everybody, so maybe that has something to do with it. Either way, I like how this dress makes me look, and feel.

To add on to this ensemble, I just paired it with the same earrings I have been wearing most of this week (because I am in a yellow rut) and my go-to summer flats. In addition, I added the white tank underneath, because this dress is definitely not made to be worn without one.

Hope you guys have a great weekend!

And I guess that's why they call it the blues, time on my hands could be time spent with you

Dress: Juicy Couture
Tank-Top: J.Crew
Sandals: BCBG Max Azria
Necklace: boutique in France
Earrings: craft show
Another beautiful sunny day, another dress gets to be worn. Hooray! Anyways, I love the casual feel of this dress. The other ones I have been wearing this week have been dressier, but I like how the movement and shape of this dress makes it more casual. Actually, this dress is really supposed to be worn poolside (I think) but what do I care about the rules? So, to make this dress much classier and more sophisticated than hanging by the pool, I added one of my favorite necklaces- not only does it remind me of my trip to France, but I love all the different shades of blue, green, and turquoise that you can see with it. Also, I added some blue earrings (which were actually made from buttons-how cool is that?) and a white tank-top, just to keep the dress from being too predictable.

Okay, I think that is it for now. I'm off to my tour time, then to dorm dinners on the quad with all my friends, woo-hoo! Oh but before I forgot, today's title comes from this song (live and original).

La Vie en

Dress: BCBG Max Azria
Sandals: Steve Madden
Necklace: Betsey Johnson
Sunglasses: Kate Spade
Earrings: stolen from mom
Oh, I am sure for the third day in a row you are sick of seeing me wearing entirely yellow. However, I do not care, because I love yellow, and the positive energy it gives to people. Anyways, I am so happy it warm and sunny yet again so I could wear a dress! I only have 6 days of school left, and I haven't worn all my dresses-major problem, obviously. So, I have decided to fix the problem by wearing dresses for the next 6 days straight. Well, probably.

Getting back to the outfit at hand-very easy to put together. And that, is what I love about dresses! There is absolutely no effort involved, but it looks much better than a typical jeans and tee outfit, yes? All you have to is grab a dress, find some simple flats to let the dress stand out on its own, or add complex shoes to make it a little more complex, and then add some jewelry. Bam! Outfit put together in no time flat, honestly. Like today, my roommate was whining about how hungry she was and how my fashionista self needed to hurry up so we could get to breakfast (I was still in my bathrobe, at this point) Two minutes later, I was dressed and we were out the door. So, that should just prove how easy this is.

La Vie en Jaune

Dress: Lilly Pulitzer
Shoes: BCBG Max Azria
Earrings: Liz Claiborne
Sunglasses: Kate Spade
Belt: found it?

Yes, it's all yellow-but I love it! I am starting to think that yellow may be my new favorite color. I just love what a positive and optimistic vibe it adds to anything it is put on-whether it be clothing, or a book, or a chair or whatever. Anyways, today was the perfect day for this outfit. It has been sunny and nice all today, without even the slightest trace of rain.

Another reason thing I love about this dress-it is the perfect example of good fit. It drives me absolutely nuts that so many people are not wearing the right size, whether it be too tight or too big, everyone should wear what fits. Even if it is not your usual size. For instance, this dress is a 4. Now let me tell you- I am never a 4. However, when I tried it on just for the heck of it, it fit like a glove! Anyways, moral of the story is-buy clothes that fit. On the opposite spectrum, if you usually wear a 12, and when you try on the 12 it is too tight-don't buy it! Clothes brands have sizes that go all over the place, so don't blame yourself. Woo, okay rant over, sorry.

May Madness!

Me and my friend Melissa on the quad at the beginning of May Madness.
Bikini Top: Target
Shorts: Gettysburg Bookstore
Sunglasses: Kate Spade
Flip-Flops (not seen): Havaianas
Headband: Goody
Okay, I know, I know. This is a blog primarily about fashion, and this is not exactly my most fashionable moment. However, I basically spent the entire day sun-bathing, reading The Last Song, playing volleyball on the quad, going through the slip and slide with my roommate, and blowing grape-scented bubbles. I needed to wear a bathing suit, and anything else I was wearing had to be able to dry quickly-hence the mesh shorts. In conclusion, I hope this slightly explains the unfashionable attire.

Anyways, this weekend was fabulous. Friday, once everyone was out of class, I played tennis with a bunch of my friends during the day, then had a girls night and watched the Hannah Montana Movie (i know were kids...) while eating all kinds of munchies. Then to start off May Madness, during the afternoon yesterday, Hood's CAB (campus activities board) hosted quad fest-which was so much fun. Lots of good bands, and I was able to spend some nice quality time in the sun with my friends who will soon be leaving for summer. After the campus cookout, I played competitive ping-pong with my friends until Air Band. Which, was also super fun. In addition to getting a free Hood shirt, I was able to laugh uncontrollably for a good hour and a half.

Unfortunately, as a result of the weekends fun festivities, I have been stuck inside all day today. I just finished my french oral presentation on the origins of English words with French associations (think french fries, french kissing, french toast, french braids, etc.) which was very interesting. Now I am working on my photo portfolio review, which is rather tedious, but fun in a weird way.

Hope everyone had a great weekend-now back to the daily grind until finals week!
