Eye of the Tiger

Top (borrowed from mom): Michael by Michael Kors
Pants: BCBG Max Azria
Shoes: BCBG Max Azria
Earrings: American Eagle
Sunglasses: Target
Bracelets: H & M
Bag: Coach

Black and brown go together....
A. Never! Black and brown together is such a faux pas!
B. Always! Break the rules, and wear what you want!
C. Sometimes. It depends on how it is put together.
D. Who cares? Fashion is dumb.

Myself, I've always kinda been a C kinda girl, often finding it hard to put black and brown together on my own. However, I'll see how other people put it together, and they look so polished and effortless! That was kinda what I was going for here, and I really like it! It doesn't seem like they clash too awfully, in my opinion. Plus, I am really loving the pops of blue in this outfit, between the earrings, the beads, and incidentally enough- my toe nail polish!

I wish I could have more pictures, but unfortunately there wasn't enough time today- extra long day at work. LE SIGH.

A New Twist

Top (borrowed from mom): White House Black Market
Dress (worn as a skirt): Juicy Couture
Sandals: Steve Madden
Sunglasses: Target
Earrings: stolen from mom
Necklace: France
Bag: Coach
Relatively inspired by this outfit from the lovely Jessica Schroeder of What I Wore, and in effort to make this dress more work friendly, here is what I came up with it for today's look.

I am relatively pleased with the ensemble, but would be happier if I could wear it how I really want to right now, with a spaghetti strap tank-top. However, even though my office is very (emphasis on casual) business casual, I knew that wouldn't be appropriate. Look for that look sometime in the future, I hope.

In other news, I finally got my hair touched up! It's a shade darker than usual, but I am loving it. However, I know I'm not going to love the inevitable "You're hair is so red! Your not naturally a red head?!" No, no I am not.

Black and Gold

Dress: Calvin Klein
Shoes: Steve Madden
Bag: Coach
Sunglasses: Target
Headband: Juicy Couture
Earrings: Eiffel Tower gift shop
Bracelet: vintage
"What are you wearing?! You look like a cop!" -My older brother's reaction upon seeing what I was wearing.

I do not think I look like a cop. I actually really like this dress a lot. I think it is very minimalistic, clean cut, and polished. Only problem, I am now realizing at I look at these pictures- does this dress wrinkle! Plus, it seemed to pick up quite a bit of lint, but that was to be expected. To complement all the gold buttons of this dress, I paired a lot of gold accessories. The gold earrings, a vintage bracelet, the sandals, and the little heart on the headband. Again, this may come across as too matchy-matchy for some. However. Not only do I not care, I think it works like this.

Too much of the same thing?

Dress: Lilly Pulitzer
Sandals: BCBG Max Azria
Bag: Coach
Sunglasses: Target
Earrings: H &M
Bracelet: Vintage

So the last time I wore this dress, I wore it basically the exact same way. This time, I just switched up the jewelry a bit. I feel as if that some might argue that I should wear this a different way if I am going to have a fashion blog with almost daily What-I-Wore posts, but I don't really care. I like letting the dress shine for itself, I don't think it needs anything covering it up, or taking away from this bold color and print. However last time I forgot to mention the best thing about this dress- the pockets! Dresses with pockets are the best, even if I don't keep anything in them but my hands. I wouldn't want to weigh them down with my cell phone or wallet like a man might, haha.

So, that's my take on this.

Meh.

Cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer
Tank-Top: J. Crew
Pants (borrowed from mom): Saks Fifth Avenue
Shoes: Coach
Bag: Coach
Sunglasses: Target
Bracelet: gift

Hmm. This outfit is pretty meh. I had very high hopes for when I conjured this look in my head last night, but upon putting it all together this morning, I was not very impressed. Don't get me wrong, I love how it's just abundant in bold and bright colors, but it's just not right. Something is off, but I'm not sure what it is. Maybe it needs a long necklace? I don't know. Anyways, I guess this is better then coming to work naked, right?

These pants are really fun and different, but I wish I thought of a more creative way to put them together. Maybe next time.

Matchy-Matchy

Cardigan: Ann Taylor Loft
Camisole: gift from mom
Skirt(borrowed from mom): Michael by Michael Kors
Shoes: AK Anne Klein
Wristlet: Coach
Sunglasses: Target
Bracelets: Sergio Lub and Lenox
Necklace: Vintage
Another busy, busy day at work. Today I was off to a lecture by myself representing the company, so I wanted to look very professional. Of all the pieces I had borrowed from my mom this week, I figured this was the best piece to achieve that look.

Overall, I actually really like this outfit a lot. I think it looks very springy, fresh, and polished. Plus, I am pleased by the almost nonexistent black in this outfit. This skirt is my favorite piece of the look, it swishes around so nicely as I run around the office all of today. Plus, I think all of this jewelry is a great complement. Since finding this necklace, and remembering I had these bracelets, I have been wearing them a lot. Also, you may notice that I finally have another pair of high heels! Actually, I have a bunch of other pairs at home, but I finally remembered last weekend to bring some back to school with me. I think this works so much better than what I would have originally worn, my black patent high heel pumps (formerly my only pair of high heels at school). They look so delicate and feminine, just like the skirt.

However, does anyone think it is too match-matchy? Personally, I can be relatively OCD about clothes matching, so this works for me a lot. However, I know many people aren't really into matching, so I was just wondering about some other opinions on this look.

What's Hot...June

Another month, another hot list. Here’s what I’ve been really into this month. Hope you guys enjoy, and feel free to leave your own hot list in the comments!

1. Pretty Little Liars
After initially seeing the previews for this a couple of months ago, I was beyond excited to see the premiere of this show. As a follower of the book series from the start, I had high expectations for this show. So far, I have been totally pleased with the outcome. The show follows relatively closely to the books, which many shows can have a problem doing when they are based off a book. In addition, I love the fashion! But, that’s to be expected. The only problem I really have with it is some of the actresses casted. Based on the books description, I expected certain characters to look just so. I understand that you shouldn’t pick someone based on looks, but it was kinda a part of the series for me. Don’t get me wrong, they’re good actors, but just not what I expected.

2. Havaianas
Seriously, if you haven’t heard of these flip-flops by now, where have you been? Sure, they are definitely a little pricey for a pair of flip-flops, but they are the comfiest, nicest, and most well lasting flip-flops I have ever worn. Usually you can find them every once in awhile on gilt.com or ideeli.com, in a variety of colors and patterns at bargain prices, so I would stock up there if you don’t have a pair yet. I wear mine everywhere, and am excited to get another pair (or two!) this summer. Credit
3.Bliss Body Butter in Blood Orange and White Pepper
If you have never heard of Bliss, or used any of their products, you are seriously missing out! Their products are definitely pricey, but they have such a long shelf life. The body butter I am currently using was bought in December, and I know that it will probably last until the end of year. And I am all for products that cost a little bit more, but are so worth it. Like this body butter, it totally lives up to its description, and feels smooth, rich, and decadent on dry skin. This stuff is perfect right out of the shower, and leaves you smelling fresh for the rest of the day.

4.The Victoria’s Secret Semi-Annual Sale
It is seriously testing my will to not buy anything from the Victoria’s Secret semi-annual sale. I have a bad underwear addiction, and already have way too many pairs of underwear and bras from VS. However, this shouldn’t stop you from buying stuff! Plus, even if you aren’t into underwear like I am, you can buy clothes, jewelry, bags, shoes, and so much more at great prices.

5. Blink 182- Enema of the State
Yup, I know this is an old CD. But I feel like Blink-182 is such a great band to listen to in the summer, I couldn’t bear to leave them off my hot list. This CD features hits such as “What’s My Age Again,” “The Party Song,” “Adam’s Song,” and “All the Small Things,” which are all perfect to blast in the car with the windows down on a summer nights drive. I encourage you to check this CD out if you haven’t already.

6. Nalgene Water Bottles
Again, many might balk at paying $12 for a water bottle. However, I balk at those who purchase 30 packs of water every two weeks, not only because they are wasting money, but because they are hurting the environment. Nalgene water bottles are great because they are reusable and eco-friendly, BPA free, and, they come in a variety of colors and patterns to appease everyone. Like I mentioned before, I am all for spending money on a product which will last, just like my Nalgene does. I have dropped my bottle hundreds of times, and have yet to have one crack or break. If I still haven’t sold you on a Nalgene yet, just imagine not having to carry a huge pack of water back from the grocery store after every trip. Doesn’t that sound nice?

7. The Shack by WM. Paul Young
I still haven’t finished this book yet, but I am in love with everything I have read so far. However, it is a book heavy in religion, so this may not be the right summer read for everyone. Either way, it is a book that definitely makes you think, and gain a deeper perspective on a lot of valuable life lessons and morals. Check out a much better description than mine here.

8. Cindy Sherman
Cindy Sherman is a photographer best known for her self portrait photography. I learned about her this semester in photo class, and I was drawn into her well composed shots immediately. Although some of work may be considered eclectic, or weird, I am inspired nonetheless by her work. Some of my favorite photos from her are here, here, and here.

9. The Library
So I know this might seem kind of random, but I love going to the library in the summer! I knew I had to make sure this was on my list. Even if you just go inside to escape the unbearable heat and humidity that is so common on the east coast, you can still find some benefit of this haven. Honestly, what is better then getting to borrow books, movies, and Cd's whenever you want for free? I can't think of much else.

10. Fruit
Again, this one is definitely random, but there is nothing better then juicy ripe fruit in the summer time. It's so nice on a hot summer day to eat crisp cold fruit to chill off. Personal favorites in the summer? Oranges, raspberries, strawberries, and pineapple. Plus, blending them together makes delicious and nutritious fruit shakes. Yum!

"Let me tell you something kid; Everybody gets one chance to do something great. Most people never take the chance, either because they're too scared, or they don't recognize it when it spits on their shoes. "
-The Sandlot

Yup, it's not fashion related- I know. But this quote has been going through my mind all of this week. This week at work, I was offered one of the best opportunities I have ever received, and I nearly turned it down. Then I remembered this quote, and thought of how crazy I was to say no to one of the biggest opportunities in my lifetime. Right now, I'm scared and nervous. But if I don't take this chance...I may never get another one. More details on this in a couple of weeks, but for right now, here's to taking chances.

P.S- If you haven't seen the Sandlot...go. watch. immediately. I don't care if you don't like sports, or baseball, or whatever, but this movie is a classic. Seriously, you're killing me smalls!

As Seen In...College Fashion!

This week, I was featured on College Fashion in a post about colored denim. I am very excited, and am honored to be featured on one of my favorite fashion blogs! To check out the post, click the link here.

I am wearing a look that was shown a couple of months back, shown here. However, I had some new shots of the outfit, which I will post under this. This is so exciting! But seriously, please excuse my rambling.

My Blog is Carbon Neutral

So the other day I read from one of the blogs that I had stumbled upon about how they had gone carbon neutral! Upon following the link provided, I found out how I could make my blog carbon neutral too. It's simple, really. According to a study done, the average website causes about 0.02 grams of carbon dioxide for each visit. Basically, this website plants a tree to offset your carbon emission if you do a short post on them. So simple!

Shiny, Silky, Silvery

Top (borrowed from mom):Cynthia Cynthia Steffe
Pants: BCBG Max Azria
Shoes: Coach
Wristlet: Coach
Bracelets: Lenox, Sergio Lub
Necklace: Vintage
Today is the last day of my third week at work! Goodness, I cannot believe how time flies. I feel like it was honestly my first day here like yesterday. Regardless, I doubt anyone really cares so I'll stop rambling about how old I am beginning to feel....okay yea I'm stopping now.

Anyways. So the inspiration for this look was the top, one of the pieces borrowed from my mom this week. I really like it a lot, it's so delicate and feminine, and I think the slouchy blue bow in the middle makes it a little different from the average silk printed tank. Plus, check out the ruffles! Since it's the summer and decently hot in the Frederick area, I don't need a cardigan or anything. But imagine in the winter with like a cute sweater, and the ruffle coming out at the top? Need to borrow this again. Moving on, I paired it with some black slouchy pants instead of my usual black high-waisted skirt, just to balance the girliness of the top. Finally, I piled on some shiny silver bracelets and added my favorite black patent high heel pumps.

God bless my mom

Top (borrowed from mom): Nanette Lepore
Skirt (borrowed from mom): BCBG Max Azria
Shoes: Steve Madden
Necklace: Betsey Johnson
Earrings: stolen from mom
Bag: Coach
Sunglasses: Target
Seriously, god bless my mother for always letting me borrow whatever I want from her gigantic wardrobe. I am seriously so lucky that she is the same size and doesn't have any problems with my constant borrowing. If not, I would have spent a fortune this summer trying to create the perfect working girl wardrobe.

Anyways. I'm really liking today's look...I feel very grecian. Turquoise and white is such a great color combination as it is, but gold accessories (sandals, earrings, necklace) really give this outfit that feel, I think. Also, I just love this top in general. The fine detailing is evident everywhere; from the lace edging on the top, ruffling, and the overall texture of the top. Finally, I'm kinda mad this is the second time in a week that I am wearing this skirt, but it was just such a perfect complement to this top. Black would have been too wintry, don't you think?

Pink and Preppy

Shirt: American Eagle
Camisole: Calvin Klein
Skirt: Lauren by Ralph Lauren
Shoes: Coach
Necklace: Betsey Johnson
Bag: Coach
Sunglasses: Target

Now this is more like it! This look is bright, fresh, and preppy, nothing like many of my black ensembles of weeks past. I am very content! Wearing clothes like this just make you feel better about yourself, don't you think?

P.S- I'm wearing my new sunglasses I got from Target this weekend! Today is such a great day!Edit-this is also my 100th post! I can't believe how many posts I have written, and just how past time flies. I'm sure I'll be celebrating the year birthday of my blog before I know it.

Cowabunga!

Top: I.N.C
Skirt (borrowed from mom): BCBG Max Azria
Shoes: Coach
Belt: J. Crew
Bag: Kate Spade
Necklace: vintage
Earrings: stolen from mom
Well, I went a full week without really donning black. However, now I'm back in black, but not for too long. I really wanted to wear this top I borrowed from my mom today, just because it is so fun, but I knew I was going to have to wear black to get a look I desired. Whatever. It's not too overwhelmingly black like other days, so I'm satisfied.

My favorite part of this outfit is probably the belt, actually. I got this belt about two years ago, and haven't worn it as much as I would like, so I am hoping to start to get some wear out of it now. I just love the shine and the color; it's so bold and vibrant! Also, I finally replaced my Target sunglasses (last seen here.) I crushed them going to New York in April, and this weekend is the first time I was able to find them in a Target again (while back at work this Saturday...sigh) Anyways, look for my other those and my other exciting Target find sometime soon!

Last random note, my blog is relatively under-construction. It's almost done, but I want to change the header. However, I have to figure out how to do that first.

"Style is primarily a matter of instinct."
-Bill Blass
This week's quote is short, sweet, and to the point. Plus, I couldn't agree more. The pieces that just catch my eye in the store because they are just so unique or scream me, are usually the ones I end up buying, loving, and cherishing the most. So, next time while you are shopping or putting together what you are going to wear, try not to think so much about it. Just go with your instinct.

Blue and White Porcelain

Dress: BCBG Max Azria
Shoes: Steve Madden
Bag: Coach
Sunglasses: Target
Necklace: Charter Club
I did it! I successfully found something that I though was appropriate for the occasion, not black, and I took pictures outside before it got dark. Go me!

I totally forgot that this dress even existed! Last night, while rummaging through my closet, I stumbled upon this and was pleasantly surprised. This dress reminds me of blue and white china, and flows beautifully over the body instead of restricting it. Unfortunately, it may have been too long since I last wore this, it's definitely a bit too tight, but I think I looked okay. I paired it with my favorite summer sandals and a simple pearl necklace to keep this outfit looking really polished.

Day 3 without black

Cardigan: Ann Taylor Loft
Camisole: Ann Taylor Loft
Pants: Lilly Pulitzer
Shoes: Steve Madden
Bag: Coach
Earrings: Bebe

So I'm patting myself on the back for the third day in a row for not wearing black as the primary focus. However, tomorrow could put a drastic halt on my fresh colored week, seeing as I have an important industry party to go to tomorrow with my company, and my nicest clothes are black. So, tonight I'm going to try to dedicate a bit of time to thinking of something appropriate and colorful! Here's to a good challenge!

Anyways, I tried to brighten my spirits this morning with this springy ensemble after I saw the gray and dreary day outside. Robin blue and mint green I think make such a nice combination, and pairing it with khaki keeps it profession. Actually, I really would have loved this with my white skirt from yesterday, but I wore it yesterday. Maybe sometime later this summer?

Blue, Pink, and White

Cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer
T-Shirt: American Eagle
Camisole: Ralph Lauren
Skirt(borrowed from mom): BCBG Max Azria
Shoes: Steve Madden
Bag: Coach
Necklace: Erikson Beamon for Target
Today was a long day. And it's still not over. I have yet to finish up my journal for work, and I have to pack my lunch and get everything else ready for work tomorrow.

Enough of my whining though, and onto this outfit. I really do like it a lot, but I just wish I could have taken some pictures during the day to capture the real quality of it. I really love how the white skirt really makes all the colors pop. I love how blue and pink look together as it is, and this is knee-length borrowed skirt do them much better justice then my usual skinny jeans do. Then, I added this layered necklace just to keep the outfit for being too boring for my taste, plus my new favorite cognac slouchy leather handbag and gold sandals for a finishing touch.

And I can't hide that I relied on you, like yellow does on blue.

Cardigan: Calvin Klein
Tank-Top: J.Crew
Skirt(borrowed from mom): I.N.C
Sandals: BCBG Max Azria
Bag: Coach
Sunglasses: Target
Earrings: stolen from mom
Bracelet: gift
I am in love with this outfit! Such a great way to show that I have finally broken out from my black funk/rut. Hopefully I can keep this up for the next couple of weeks though, seeing as it is summer and all. Plus, I do have some cheery outfits planned out, to keep me from going to back to black. I hope both of these help.

Yet again, I cannot say how much I love that I can always count on my mom to let me borrow something. I decided every week I would grab one or two things from her just to add a little extra spice and fun to my wardrobe. My favorite part about this, it's all free. Goodness, I am seriously lucky to have someone who doesn't mind at all sharing clothes. In her opinion, it's better than just letting things sitting on hangers. Score.

In addition, today has just been overall such a happy day! The weather today is gorgeous, not sticky hot for once, I didn't really have to do too much at work today other than make phones calls, I'm wearing a super cute outfit, AND I got a three hour lunch break today! Which, I spent strolling around the park with my boyfriend talking, and playing with all doggies that came up to us. Can't you tell how happy I am? Today has been a great day!

Finally, the lyrics that are in today's title come from this song (original and live). Doesn't it describe what I am wearing perfectly?

“The dress must follow the body of a woman, not the body following the shape of the dress.”
-Hubert de Givenchy

Dear Givenchy, thank you for taking the words right out of my mouth. As most of you probably already know by know, I absolutely cannot stand it when people where ill-fitting clothing. The world would just be such a better looking place if everyone only wore clothing that fit them properly and didn't bunch, ride up, or strain across certain body parts. Maybe one day, but something tells me that day is so far away.

It was a dark and stormy night...

Shirt: Juicy Couture
Camisole: Calvin Klein
Skirt: Marc Jacobs
Sandals: Steve Madden
Bag: Coach
Necklace: BCBG Max Azria
Earrings: stolen from mom, and piercing pagoda
...well, it's about to be at least. I was just sitting here, when all of a sudden, the sky just opened up and the torrential downpour began. But that's besides the point.

Anyways, so today is the last day of work for the week! Really, already? I seriously can't believe how fast it went! Okay yea, it was a three day week. Regardless, it flew by.

So yet again, I'm wearing black. I don't know how I got in this funk. (did anyone see Glee Tuesday? Fabulous.) Back on point, I really am a lover of bright colors, but this week really doesn't reflect that. However, while looking through my closet today, I noticed a lot of my more colorful pieces are not really work appropriate. Sigh. I guess I'm going to have to work on that... aka shopping time! However, I still really like how this outfit came out overall. I haven't worn this skirt in forever, and with all the colors in it, it really is very versatile. Usually I can be rather boring with it, and I'll wear it with a black or white top, but I should wear it with some of the other colors in the skirt. Well, I can work on that I guess. Plus, I love love love this necklace, and I don't wear it enough. It's such a complex pendant, and hangs so nicely on this basic and delicate gold chain.
