Happy Birthday + Gray Area

Seeing as this Thursday was my 21st birthday, I wanted to paint my nails with glitter and sparkles (okay, this isn't any different than any other week, but this just gave me an excuse). Plus, with New Years tonight, I seriously couldn't think of a better occasion to sport some glitter.

So my glitter of choice this week? Happy Birthday from Deborah Lippmann, naturally. I've been lusting over this polish for weeks now, but just couldn't bring myself to spend $18 on a bottle of nail polish. However, my mom surprised me on Christmas with this party in a bottle, and I'm so glad she did! I love it. It's full of mini glitter in all different colors, and multicolored hexagon glitter. Now, after already buying OPI's Rainbow Connection, it was interesting to compare the two polishes. I definitely think that Rainbow Connection is a good dupe, but the application of the Deborah Lippmann is much easier. Either way, love them both.

I paired Happy Birthday with Gray Area from Sally Hansen. I bought this a couple of weeks now, and I'm just getting to try it for the first time this week. Like Happy Birthday, I love it! The application of Sally Hansen polishes is really good, especially for the price. After only two thin coats, I had perfect even coverage. I can't wait to try this post in matte though - I think it will look even better like that!

And seeing as it's 11:48...happy (almost) new year! Pin It

Merry Christmas!

I know I haven't done one of these in awhile, but I figured today would be the perfect opportunity to do so. This week I've been snapping tons of photos, but mostly just with my iPhone. Not really sure why I haven't been using my normal camera, but maybe that's just because I take my iPhone with me everywhere. And with that, here's how I saw this week in photos.

P.S- Thanks to Instagram!
My festive Hawaiian tree that lights up my room every night.

Red velvet cupcakes I made for my brothers holiday party.
Freshly popped popcorn (which soon became tequila spiked caramel corn...YUM)!

34th street lights in downtown Baltimore.

Bright place settings for Christmas Eve dinner.

Ready for mass on Christmas eve (and having an excellent hair day, at that).

And the stockings were hung by the chimney with care....

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight!

Holiday Festivity

Shirt: Juicy Couture
Pants: Lilly Pulitzer
Scarf: Target
Shoes: Coach
So this is what I wore to my mom's first of two holiday parties. Super festive, I know. But when I had to go straight to work afterwards, the only thing I was thinking about was function. Seeing as I hate changing a bunch of different times in one day, I knew I was going to wear my khaki pants. Then, I was just left to pair them with one of the few tops that I brought home with me.

I decided on this plain black v-neck and super soft scarf. Like I said, it's pretty boring, but neutrals always work well together. In addition, somehow in my rush to get home last week, I managed not to pack any jewelry other than what I had on me (aka my usual earrings and rings). So I'll be bare on jewelry for the next month, unless I get any for my birthday or Christmas. Oh well, I think I'll live.

Anyway, I apologize for not posting as much recent. I started back at my favorite place in the world (aka Target) on Sunday, and I have basically signed my life to the guest service counter until after Christmas. Hopefully there will be a resurgence of outfit posting after the new year!

Facets of Fuschia

So after one of my friends got me a six pack of mini nail polishes for Christmas, I told myself I wasn't going to buy anymore for awhile. HA! It took til my next trip to my local Target to break that. When I saw this beautiful polish, I couldn't stop myself. I actually have seen it several times, but this time I caved and decided to buy it - and I'm so glad I did!

The base of this polish is a very dark purple, almost black color, and then it's filled with dark purple hexagonal glitters. Because of the colored base, this made for an easy application. It only took three coats to get the look above, unlike most glitters which are made of a clear base.

I would definitely recommend checking out this color. Although it's pretty dark, I still think it's festive for the holiday season!

Finals Wear

Cardigan: Lacoste
Shirt: J. Crew
Scarf: Urban Outfitters
Pants: J. Crew
Shoes: Lucky Brand

Finals week at college is a week unlike any other at school. For the most part, people are spread out all over campus studying, actually respecting the quiet hall hours, and freaking about if they're going to get the grade they want in class. So as you can imagine, that's how I've been spending my week. I've been running around like a nut making study guides, packing, and finishing up final projects. However, I'm finally done! And home, thank goodness.

Anyway, I found this to be the perfect outfit to run around in. My boots kept my feet nice and dry, and my J.Crew minnie pants have the stretch of yoga pants - but without looking like it. Finally, I bundled up on top with a thick sweater and a soft scarf. However, it's not like I really needed it - it's been in the 50s this week! Really quite abnormal for Maryland, considering it's the middle of December. But hey, I'll take it.

Either way, I'm just happy to be home. I'm looking forward to relaxing for all of three days with the family, then going back to working guest service. 'Tis the season, right?

Walk like a Parisienne pt.2

Shirt: American Eagle
Pants: Delia*s
Shoes: Coach
Scarf: Target
Earrings: Charter Club
I seriously love this shirt. Whenever I wear it, I feel very parisienne and chic. Oh and preppy too! Stripes just have that preppy touch to them. Paired with a soft cream colored scarf and some hot pink flats, this was the perfect outfit to wear during finals week.

Rainbow Connection and Allure

I don't think I have ever been so excited about a nail polish color until I saw Rainbow Connection by OPI. It was introduced with the Muppets collection this winter, and is filled with multi-colored glitter pieces in hexagon and small circle pieces.

Honestly, I love how it looks. I wanted to really let the different colored glitters shine, so for my first time wearing it, I paired it with Allure, a super pale pink polish from Essie.

The only thing I didn't like about the polish is how it applied. Above, is how it looked with two coats (which I am fine with). But the application is kind of thick, and it is hard to get just the right amount of glitter on each nail. Had I applied any more it definitely would have gotten gloopy, but I would love to see how this looked on its own.

I can't wait to pair this with colors; I think it would black and navy blue would look really cool. What do you guys think of rainbow connection? Have you tried it?

Last Day of Class

Jacket: DKNY
Dress: Vertical Designs by Lord and Taylor
Shoes: Minnetonka
Necklace: Lilly Pulitzer

Today is my last day of classes for the fall semester. Now, all that is separating me from winter break, Christmas, and my birthday is a paper (due tomorrow of course), two exams, and my final graphics project! I can't wait. Honestly, I can't believe how fast that time has gone by, it feels like just yesterday it was convocation, and I had my first day of classes. Now, I'm one semester away from graduating, and I'm starting to freak out. Um where am I going to work? Where am I going to live? What the HELL am I doing with my life? But I guess I'll figure that out later.

Anyway, today I went with another one of my comfy cashmere dresses. Although it's super warm, it's hard to keep my bare legs warm when it was only about 40 degrees outside today. But it's okay, fashion over comfort, right?

Then, I paired it with my favorite denim jacket, fringe boots, and this simple gold lock and key necklace. I really wanted to keep things simple because I like the color of the dress so much, and I didn't want anything to compete with it. I think the accessories I added worked perfectly.

Rain rain, go away.

Shirt: Anne Klein
Skirt: Charlotte Russe
Shoes: Juicy Couture
Socks: Forever 21
Bracelet: Forever 21
Scarf: Target

Best way to perk up on a rainy day? Something SUPER bright. In my case, this cherry tomato colored mini skirt I got at Charlotte Russe. When I bought it, I wasn't sure honestly how much I would wear it. But for $8, it was a steal so I decided to get it. Luckily, I wear it a lot! I find that the red actually goes with tons of different colors, and this skirt is so comfortable! Definitely a great buy.

As usual, it is raining so I had to break out my rain boots. Which means one thing for my closed minded self - black, white, and shades of gray. However, despite the monotony in my rainy day wardrobe, it's definitely better then the sea of sweatpants, hoodies, and plain t-shirts. What do you think?

Crunch Time.

Shirt: Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Pants: Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Scarf: Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Belt: Gap
Shoes: Anne Klein

A busy day calls for an outfit that can work for anywhere. Flats for walking around all day, a light scarf to keep cool in certain classrooms, and stretchy jeans for comfort. I love it. All very simple, but I still feel put together.

That's all I got for now - things are super busy for everyone with finals next week. Good luck to everyone else!

Strange Inspiration..

Jacket: Tahari
Shirt: J. Crew
Pants: Delia*s
Shoes: Lucky Brand
Scarf: borrowed from the roommate
Earrings: gift

Sometimes, I get outfit inspiration from the strangest of things. For example, Pinterest, cities, candy, celebrities, bloggers, notebook patterns, etc., etc.

Anyway, so it shouldn't come to a surprise that this outfit came from a strange source - my roommate! Now, most people probably wouldn't find this a very weird place to get inspiration, since living with someone you like tends to inspire you. My roommate - not so much. And that's not to say she isn't inspiration, just not in the fashion department. She's 10 times happier in soccer shorts and plain t-shirts, and doesn't dress up unless she has to. But me, you can't get me out of dress usually! So when I saw her wearing almost this exact same get up yesterday, I knew instantly I wanted to copy it. Like as in today.

I just love the combination of the cargo green paired with this rich purple scarf (that I borrowed from her, since I don't have one). Although this outfit is probably more appropriate for early fall, I think it still works during this time of the year considering how unseasonable warm it has been - like in the high 50s! Global warming is real, people.

Anyway, to finish it off I added my brown boots that I just can't get enough of, and these dangly earrings that go with just about everything. What do you think?

Cloud and Set the Stage

When I decided to do my nails this week, for some reason I was really drawn to this lavender polish by Revlon called "Cloud". Although it isn't exactly an appropriate color for the beginning of December, I don't really care. It's such a pretty color, and despite how light it is, I think it looks really good with my skin tone.

In addition, I decided to do a french manicure style tip with by favorite gold glitter, Sally Hansen's "Set the Stage," for just a little twist (plus, it makes this a little more holiday friendly). Honestly, I love how it came out! However, it was a lot harder to do than I thought it would be. I wanted to get just the right amount of big pieces on each nail, and it was hard getting it to stay where I wanted it to. Overall, I think it took three swipes of gold per nail. And it's still not perfect. But, it's still pretty and festive, so I'm happy.

How are you guys doing your nails this week?

Walk like a Parisienne

Shirt: Tory Burch
Pants: Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Shoes: Bandolino
Scarf: BCBG Max Azria
Earrings: Betsey Johnson

I feel very Parisienne today. Between the scarf, the breton stripes, and the black, this outfit just has a certain "je ne sais quoi" that reminds me of the sophisticated women that walk the streets of Paris. Although it is a little weird wearing this much black; I'm much happier wearing lots of colors all at once. No matter though, I like this look a lot!

"Bohemian" Neutrals

Dress: Vertical Designs by Lord and Taylor
Jacket: Tahari
Shoes: Minnetonka
Necklace: Claire*s

Best way to fight off the cold weather? A cashmere dress, bien sur. Okay, so it's no freezing yet, but it's definitely getting cold. But not cold enough to wear pants and cover up my legs - not yet.

I ended up going for a bohemian vibe, even though I don't really think I would put cashmere dresses in the "bohemian" category. It's mainly these suede fringed boots that give it that look, and I love it. Or maybe it's my long wavy hair. Anyway originally I was going to wear my standard brown leather boots, but then I remember these babies in the back of my closet. Once I put them on, I knew they were perfect.

Finally, I finished off with this multi-colored necklace I got at Claire*s years ago, and my olive green jacket from Tahari. Really, all this outfit is a bunch of neutrals put together. Which in my opinion, usually turns out pretty well. And in this case, I think that applies. What do you think?

In a Rush

Cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer
Dress: Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Shoes: Lucky Brand
Belt: Charlotte Russe
Necklace: Nordstrom Rack

Remember that nice weather that I raved about all yesterday? Gone. It poured almost all day today, and the skies never showed a glimpse of the sun. Not that I would have known that at 4:15 this morning when I left for my internship, but no matter. At least I had my boots to keep me dry!

Anyway, I kept things pretty casual today, with just a simple blue dress and this coral color cardigan. I love wearing all these bright colors against the sea of grays and blacks on campus - it just puts me in a better mood. Finally, I just added my strand of pearls and a skinny belt to finish things off. What do you guys think?

Monday Ramblings

Dress: Calvin Klein
Necklace: Juicy Couture
Shoes: Lucky Brand
Bracelet: vintage

It's a mere two days before December, and it's 72 degrees outside. Now don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining. But it sure is weird going bare-legged at the end of November, not wearing a coat, and not being cold. Again - I'm not complaining. I'm actually really happy about the weather, but it only proves that global warming is completely real.

So anyway, in honor of this gorgeous weather, I decided to bare my legs and my arms for possibly the last time this year with this new sweater dress I got at Tysons a couple of weeks ago. It's one of those kind of dresses that perfectly hugs my body, no matter what way I move.

To finish my simple look, I paired it with my classic brown boots and some gold jewelry. Instant classic.

Side note - does anyone know what color this dress is? I've been trying to figure it out with my friends all day, but have yet to make a decision. We're having a hard time deciding between olive, dark khaki, or brown. What do you guys think?

Aruba Blue and Starry Silver Glitter

There's no doubt in my mind that Essie's "Aruba Blue" is one of my favorite nail colors. It's matches my schools blue perfectly, it only requires two coats, and it works during any season. So, when I decided to wear the cutest royal blue BCBG Max Azria dress to the dance last week, I knew that this shade would match perfectly.

However I didn't want to just do solid nails, so I added NYC's "Starry Silver Glitter" to my ring finger. Okay, so this isn't much different then how I have been doing my nails the last couple of weeks, but it's something. Anyway, I have never used this glitter before, but I really like it. I imagine it would take about four or five coats to  get all over glitter, but it's perfect as a layering polish. Filled with small silver glitter and blue and purple hexagon pieces, it adds just enough sparkle.

Cheers to Thanksgiving Break!

Sweater: Lilly Pulitzer
Pants: Delia*s
Shoes: Lucky Brand
Earrings: Charter Club
Scarf: gift

It's Tuesday which means one thing...Thanksgiving break! As of 3:50 p.m. I am free, and I cannot wait to get out of here!

Of course, it was another miserable day outside. However, I decided to wear bright colors just to show the rain it can't put a damper on my day. This blue and green combination was perfect for just that purpose and complement each other PERFECTLY. Okay, maybe they are colors that are more typically reserved for summer, but who cares? We should break the rules (well, the fashion ones at least).
