Black and Blue

Even though we're still in the midst of a seriously hot summer, I went with a fall inspired nail color(s) this week. I started with four (yes, I counted), four coats of Essie's Licorice. It's the perfect shade of black, but Essie polish can be pretty streaky and I wanted to make sure I had a deep dark shade of black. Then, I added two coats of Nicole by O.P.I's Such a Go Glitter. I think I would have been better if I had just stuck with one coat, but it is what it is.

In real life, I think it came out much more navy looking than these pictures did, but that's okay. It still turned out really well, in my opinion. What do you guys think?

Proof that I have a life.

Shirt: Juicy Couture
Skirt: I.N.C
Shoes: Coach
Bag: Dooney and Bourke
Necklace: Lilly Pulizter

Now I know this is pretty hard to believe, but sometimes I actually get dressed after work. That's right, you read this correctly, on very rare occasions after a long day at work, I get dressed in normal clothes, and go out and do something with my life. Usually, I prefer to just put on some pajamas, or maybe some running clothes if it has been a really good day, and lounge around the house doing nothing. However, today was not one of those days. Tonight, my family went out to dinner at Annabelle Lee's - a tavern just outside of Baltimore City named after Edgar Allen Poes last poem. It offers a wide variety of upscale bar food; from duck fat fries to crab cake sandwiches, and everything else in between. My mom and I split the Jack Daniels baby back ribs that came with sweet potato fries and grilled corn on the cob. Absolutely delicious (and super messy)!

Now, because I don't get out of my red and khaki very much during the summer, it is very important to me that whenever I do go out in public that I wear something that I really like. So today, I picked out this super cute sequined skirt and paired it with a black v-neck tee and some patent leather black pumps. To keep the outfit from being too boring, I added the red patent leather purse for an extra pop of color. Perfect!

I can't wait to wear this skirt during the fall -- I know it's going to be super versatile! Now most people probably won't agree with that statement, but I can't wait to pair it with tights, my jean jacket, and brightly colors tops. Man, just writing this makes me wish school would start right now! I so miss having an excuse to look cute everyday! I've got about 20 more days before I go back to school...I know I can do this!

A week in photos

It's that time of the week - time for the weekly round-up in iPhone we go!

I spent last Friday in Ocean City, Md. soaking up the sun, and getting totally sun burnt. Still a fun day!

On the way home, we stopped at Sonic for dinner. NOM.

On Sunday, I went up an visited the boy at school. I love just walking around our campus with him in the summer when it's deserted.

Tuesday, I had my first ever cake pop! It was good, but I am not sure if I would have one again - it was super rich!

(It's weird seeing a webpage on the same webpage. I really wish I had taken a before shot- I really meant to!)

Re-designing my web page has been something I have been wanting to do for a LONG time now. Like over a year. Whenever I went and looked at the finished product of a blog post, I just wasn't satisfied. It looked like a beginners blog -- which it is, but I didn't want my blog to reflect that way anymore! So, today as the heavy rain poured steadily down my bedroom windowpanes, I decided there would be no better opportunity to give my blog a much needed make-over. About five or six hours later (yea, I really worked on it for that long), I was finished.

First, I decided to look at a couple of my absolute favorite blogs for inspiration: College Prepster, Cupcakes and Cashmere, The Daybook, and What I Wore. I have been reading all of these blogs for almost as long as most of them have been on the web, so I thought I might find something in common with their designs that I liked. Really, the only thing that I noticed was rather black and white were pretty prevalent, and all design was pretty minimal.

Then, I got to work on my blog. I started with finally adding an about page and a page of my blog roll. I've actually been working on the about page for awhile, and everything just came together today. I would recommend that you check out both pages -- my about page is the first time I have written a lot about myself on this blog, and I think you guys might enjoy it. Also on my about page, you can also find lots of different ways to contact me, stalk me, and get invites to cool online websites (you're welcome). Plus, if you read my blog, I'm sure you'll like some of the other blogs I read, so check out the blog roll!

I spent the main portion of the day working on my header in GIMP, which I am very pleased with the way it turned out. And I should be; I spent the grand majority of the day working on it! Because I am new to GIMP, I found myself easily frustrated  and ready to tear out my hair when things didn't go my way the first time. However, after reading quite a few tutorials, I felt much more comfortable with the program. Originally, I was going to do a collage with some of my favorite pictures from my blog thus far (and there were about 20), but decided against it when I realized just how long it would take. I decided that a less is more approach would work really well here, and tried it to keep it really simple by choosing an outfit that really makes me happy.

Finally, I did a little redesign of the layout, and changed up the color scheme. Overall, I am very happy with how it turned out. Although it looks nothing like some of my blogs I checked out for inspiration, I don't care. That means it's perfect -- it's a true representation of me.

Let me know what you guys think, and please take a look around my new blog! Pin It

Work Free Sunday

Top: BCBG Max Azria
Skirt: Lilly Pulitzer
Shoes: Kate Spade
Bag: Coach
For once, I was actually given off a weekend day without asking permission first from work! As anyone who works in retail knows, this is really quite rare since weekends are the busiest time for stores. Now, my Sunday off may have something to do with the fact that I am opening guest service for the next five days straight starting on Tuesday, so I guess they figured they could give me one day off. ANYWAY.

I decided to take advantage of my day off and head up to Frederick to hang out with my boyfriend all day. Other than next Sunday when we head to Six Flags with some of my other friends, this is basically the last time I will see him until the end of August. So, I'm really glad I had an opportunity to see him today.

We spent the day strolling around Hood, seeing Friends with Benefits, and eating Jack Daniels chicken sandwiches at Fridays. Overall, a perfect lazy Sunday. So obviously, I needed a cute outfit to wear that would be perfect for each of these occasions. I stuck with bright colors and light fabric, as to keep cool all day. Thankfully, this outfit was perfect! I never felt uncomfortable all day (even with the temperatures in the upper 90's, not factoring in the heat index), and I still looked cute. Pin It

Pink Parka

If you're under the impression that I am slightly obsessed with Essie nail polish, you would be 100 percent correct, and this shade I bought last summer is no exception. It's called pink parka, and it is the brightest, most obnoxious hot pink color I have ever seen. I LOVE it.

Pink Lemonade Cupcakes

The other day, I was in the mood to making something sweet AND tart, so I decided to make these pink lemonade cupcakes that I had first seen on Pinterest a month or so ago. Let me tell you, they are every bit as good as they sound, and they taste just like pink lemonade! Between the pink lemonade concentrate, the pink lemonade drink powder, and the lemon zest, these really can make your mouth pucker!

3 tablespoons sweetened pink lemonade drink powder (or about 3 pckgs)
1 box white cake mix, batter prepared according to package directions
1 teaspoon lemon zest
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

8 tablespoons frozen pink lemonade concentrate, thawed
2 sticks margarine
1 cup shortening2 tablespoons milk
2 teaspoons vanilla2 pounds confectioners sugar
Zest from 1 lemon

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, and line 24 standard-size muffin cups with cupcake liners.

2. Prepare the cake mix batter according to package directions, adding lemon zest, vanilla and pink lemonade powder. Use a 1/3-cup measuring cup to ladle the batter into lined muffin tins. Bake according to package directions, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.

3.Allow the cupcakes to cool before frosting. Prepare the icing by creaming margarine, shortening, lemonade concentrate, milk and vanilla with a mixer. Beat until smooth, then mix in lemon zest. Gradually add sugar, mixing well.

I also added two drops of red food coloring to the icing- it's make it the most beautiful shade of pale pink! Also, two POUNDS powder sugar makes a ridiculous amount of frosting. I suggest just eye balling it until you see the fluffy consistency of icing. Enjoy!

A week in photos

It's that time of the week again!

Current reading for the next two weeks...except I already finished three of the books!!

This is what my manicure looks like after FIVE days by using Seche Vite as a top coat. I cannot stop raving about this stuff, especially when this is what it looks like after cashiering all this week! I know it will hold up great come the fall when my hands are hardly doing anything.

I made pink lemonade cupcakes yesterday! Recipe hopefully to come sometime tomorrow.

SO good!

I am a domestic goddess

Shirt: Ralph Lauren
Skirt: American Eagle
Shoes: Kate Spade
Belt (broken necklace): Claire*s
Oh hello there, Martha Stewart speaking.

Just kidding. I wish I was anything like Martha Stewart in the kitchen. Instead, I am prone to getting food all over the counters, and leaving plates stacked high in the sink. For having such a type A personality this is pretty abnormal behavior. However, my mom has always said that I am great at getting something started, but not at getting it cleaned up. Whoops.

Anyway, for once I was actually pretty successful in the kitchen! Today, I made pink lemonade cupcakes, which are every bit as tasty as the sweet and tart summertime drink. Hopefully, I will have the recipe up sometime later this week.

In the meantime, enjoy my outfit post! I haven't had a normal one of these in awhile, and I was happy to actually get dressed and have somewhere to go today. Even if it was just the grocery store.

Summer Uniform

This is my summer uniform. No seriously, this is what I wear all summer. I wish I could say that my uniform consisted of well loved jean-cutoffs, bikinis, over sized dark aviators, and flip-flops, but that's not the case. And unfortunately until I get a professional job, it never will be. So, I have to make the best the situation. Everyday, I try and do something different to make me stand out from the flock; whether that may be by wearing something other than tennis shoes, trying a new hair do, or playing around with my make-up. So, if you find yourself in my situation, read on for some tips that will help you stand out among your fellow coworkers.

I love wearing make-up to help me stand out from the rest of my workers. However, I think it's important to avoid wearing too much make-up; I don't want to look like I'm going out on a night on the town! Plus, I tend to move around a lot at work and get really hot, so I don't want my make-up to sweat off. Because of this, I tend to stick with minimal make-up, but I choose things that make a difference. This week, I have been wearing Twilight Lip Venom from DuWop, Estee Lauder Sumptuous mascara, and Essie nail polish in Aruba Blue.

As always, your bag will set you apart from others in a crowd, and shows a lot about your personality. Although for the last couple of weeks I have been using my Longchampp Le Pilage bag, today I switched to this nautical inspired bag from Juicy Couture. I always make sure my bags are big enough for my snacks at work (peanuts, apple sauce, and a rice krispie), in addition to my Nalgene bottle and whatever book I am currently reading (Something Blue).

Finally, I try and wear shoes that are comfortable, but still show a good reflection of my personality. Most of the summer, I have been wearing my gold Sperry boat shoes, and my silver sequined Coach ballet flats. Both are super comfortable when I am on my feet all day long, and look cute.

You may notice that I didn't mention wearing any jewelry. For my kind of work, it's just in the way. While I always wear my rings (I feel naked without them), and occasionally wear earrings, everything else is just in the way. Bracelets get in the way while I cashier and make way too much noise, and necklaces can't be seen with my collared shirts. But that's just my opinion.

What are your tips for spicing up your uniform? Any former school uniform kids out there?

I really don't go out very much.

No seriously, I really don't go out very much. However, sometimes my friends can convince to do things that I would never normally do, or normally EVER wear. So here's what I wore when I went clubbing. Try not to think any less of me.

Top (borrowed from Bridgitte): Forever 21
Shorts (borrowed from Bridgitte): Wetseal
Shoes (borrowed from Bridgitte): Wetseal

I love these ladies. Can't wait to be back to school with them in the fall :)

A week in photos

I know, I know, I'm being bad. I have rarely been doing outfit posts, and as a matter of fact - I have rarely been blogging. I've been busy. I know that's not a good excuse...but that's all I got for now. Until then, here's a week in iPhone photos. I swear I will get back on top of blogging about something other than nail polish and iPhone photos soon!

The boy and I spent Saturday sitting poolside and working on our tans (well, mostly his tan, since I don't tan). He demanded that he also need my sunglasses. He looked redonk.

Then on Saturday night, I spent the evening cleaning my room (I know, I am so cool). Anyway while cleaning, I found this old picture of the boy in one of our schools promotional catalogs. Obviously had to send a picture message of this flashback.

On Monday, my mom asked me to gather all our trophies and donate them to a trophy recycling center. All together, there were 41 trophies, ranging for sports such as basketball, baseball, cheerleading, football, and hockey. I think six were mine. Then immediately after I had finished packing the last box, my older brother said he had a couple more. Of course.

Last night, I watched 500 Days of Summer. I've been hearing great reviews about this for a long time now, and just got around to watching on. Overall, I really enjoyed it. One more movie off my ever growing Netflix queue!

I've been working on my t-shirt quilt for about three years now, and decided yesterday I needed to get back on it! Since this photo, I have sewn on three shirts. Hand sewn. Yup, so this is taking forever, but I have made so much progressive! I can't wait til I finish! However I still have 16 shirts to that could be a long time coming.

My dad is supposed to get me and my friend Six Flags tickets from work (there a bargain - $24)! However, everyday he forgets. I am hoping this note will change things.

Turquoise and Caicos

I am beyond addicted to nail polish (glitter polish especially). This is terrible. I am literally addicted. I don't know if I have ever finished a bottle, even though I want to. I just keep buying more.Maybe I can finally finish one this year?

Anyway, this weeks color is Essie's turquoise and Caicos with Nicole by OPI's such a go-glitter on my ring fingers. I love how this turned out, even though it doesn't actually remind me too much of summer. However, it does make me think of water...and beaches....aka summer. Pin It

A week in photos

Man, do I love taking photos with my iPhone! Although the quality will never compare to a DSLR, I always have my iPhone on hand, so that's what I use to take on the spot photos. It's mostly of random things of no significance whatsoever, but I enjoy seeing the little things that make my week. Happy Tuesday!

I tried the new strawberry lemonade drink from McDonalds for free using a coupon! It was pretty tasty (I mean, it's free and all so I can't complain), but just a little to tart for my preference.

I received all of my Lilly Pulitzer stationery in the mail on Wednesday, and it totally made my day! Yes Rue La La, I concur, even though I did know exactly what would be inside the box, I was thrilled. However, I was sad to find packaging peanuts in my box - they make such a mess and aren't exactly eco-friendly! Plus side, the cups I ordered weren't broke. I'll stop complaining about the peanuts now.

I finally found the couple of friendship bracelets I made while at school this semester! Now they just have to make their way on my wrist. I hope that doesn't take another two months!

Every third of July since 2002, me and one of my really good friends from middle school go to a local pottery shop to paint pottery and catch up on each others life. We usually spend quite a few hours (this time three!) trying to create the most perfect piece possible. For once, I am ecstatic about how my work came out! If you can't really tell, it's a dunking cup for cookies and milk. SAWEET. I can't wait to see how it looks fired!

After pottery, we always go have ice cream! This year we went to Maggie Moos, and I got cinnamoo. Om nom nom!

This is most likely my favorite summer food. On the fourth of July, we served our corn on the cob with chili lime butter - YUM!

4th of July

Dress: Target
Belt: off a dress from Macys
Shoes: Target
Headband: BCBG Max Azria

Happy 4th of July everyone! Like I mentioned yesterday, this is one of my favorite holidays, so of course I had to get decked out in red, white and blue. Honestly, not something too hard for me to accomplish, seeing as I love the patriotic color ensemble, so I wear clothes in these colors all the time.

Today was a perfect day. I went to my towns parade, ate a Nathans hot dog while watching the annual hot dog eating contest, and had a cook out with my family. Can't get any better in my book.

Hope everyone else had a great day as well - now back to the real world tomorrow!

July Fesitivites

Shirt: Old Navy
Shorts: Hollister
Shoes: Target
Bag: Longchamp
Headband: BCBG Max Azria
Belt: Gap

The third and fourth of July are in essence, basically some of my favorite days of the year (probably right after my birthday, and Christmas). Anyway, every year since I was in seventh grade - aka NINE years ago - me and one of my really good friends from middle school go and paint pottery, get ice cream, and catch up on each others year. Then, she sleeps over at my house, and the next morning we get up extra early to go to my towns parade, get lots of candy, and watch the hot dog eating contest.

So today, I wanted to wear something super casual that I wouldn't get mad if I got dirty. However, I might actually get a little mad if I get paint on this shirt. I got this shirt at some outlet in Hawaii 10 years ago, and I always wear this shirt around the fourth of July. I love the fact that it says 2001 on it, because that's the same year that September 11th happened, and I love to show my American pride. Now, despite the fact this shirt is obviously too small (oh hey stomach), you couldn't pay me to give up this shirt. I love the shrunken fit, and the soft feel the cotton has developed over the years.

I decided to pair my shirt with some extra American color touches: a shiny red headband, a blue bag, and these white canvas sneakers that have become a new summer staple.

Anyway, now I'm off to paint! Tune back tomorrow to see what I wore to the parade!

p.s- please excuse the mess that I call my room.

Lilly Stationery

I love Lilly Pulitzer. Love, love, LOVE.

Unfortunately, her stuff can be kind of expensive, so I am always on the lookout for stuff that is on sale. But, when I got selected to do departmental honors for communications this March, I decided I would treat myself to some Lilly stationery to give me extra motivation to do my work. However, I knew it would be difficult to find the stationery on sale (seeing as I have found it hard to find at all, even full price).

I decided I would at least wait for the warehouse sale, where I could try to find some bargain basement priced Lilly stationery. However, despite making off with plenty of dresses, tops, and other great colorful finds, I didn't see any stationery at all. It was then I accepted that I was going to buy my stationery full price.

Then last Monday, I went through deleting my daily store emails on my iPhone during my break at work, and saw that Rue La La was selling Lilly home merchandise for the next two days. I knew that I would have to go through and see if I could find stationery once I got home.

I saw this set, and fell in love. Although I had originally only been planning on buying a small notebook, pen, and file folders, this whole set on sale was a better deal than buying my original three intended purchases full price! So into my cart it went.

Oh, and so did these.

Although you had to buy four in a set, they came individually packaged, so I kept two for myself, and the other two I am going to give to my aunt as a late birthday gift.

Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. In case you can't tell in the first picture, the set came with a notebook, pen, six file folders, a mini notepad, circle notes, a photo album, and a sticky notes.

I hope that my new stationery will keep me motivated throughout my last year of college (and one of my biggest projects yet - the final paper is supposed to be between 70-90 pages long)!

P.S- Happy first day of July! My summer is already about half way over - WOW.
