You can take a girl out of Paris, but you can't take Paris out of a girl.

Jacket: DKNY
Shirt: Tory Burch
Pants: Naf Naf
Shoes: Anne Klein
Bag: Longchamp
Headband: Juicy Couture
Earrings: Eiffel Tower gift shop

Although the last time I went to Paris was almost 4 years ago, the feeling of the city never left me. The sights, the sounds, the food, and most importantly, the fashion. Parisienne woman are so effortlessly chic, much like Serena from Gossip Girl who I will never be like. Regardless, I can still try an emulate their style in a way that works for me.

In my opinion, the best way to do that is with stripes. They always provide for a classic and chic vibe, and never look too fussy. I paired them with violet colored skinny jeans (which I actually got in France and surprisingly still fit), simple black leather ballet flats, and a classic denim jacket. All in all, effortlessly chic but still pretty.

Sunday Funday

Cardigan: Minnie Rose
T-Shirt: Victoria's Secret
Pants: Delia*s
Shoes: Anne Klein
Scarf: BCBG Max Azria
Earrings: gift

Proven outfit recipe for success on Sundays? Cashmere cardigans, skinny jeans, tissue tees, and scarves. Everything keeps you cozy, but nothing is so heavy as to make you too hot. To make this outfit a little less typical, I added some sparkly earrings for a finishing touch. Hope you guys all had a good weekend!

Pink Parka and Set the Stage

Now that I am back at school once again, I have been reunited with all of my nail polishes that I didn't bring home with me over the break. So this week, it was a tough call to decide how I was going to do my nails - the possibilities were endless!

For whatever reason, I decided to stick with two polishes I have had for awhile - Essies "pink parka" and one of my personal favorites, Sally Hansen "set the stage". Although the obnoxious neon pink probably isn't the best choice for the winter, I still love it anyways. It's so eye catching, and it always perks up my mood! For a little extra glitz, I added the gold sparkles to my ring fingers. It adds just the right amount of sparkle without overwhelming the neon color.

SO College

Shirt: Victoria's Secret
Scarf: Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Pants: Mavi
Shoes: Minnetonka
Belt: Gap
Earrings: gift

For as basic as this outfit is, I really like it! Honestly, I was discussing with my friends today that whenever college girls want to dress up from their Northface and Uggs, they end up wearing skinny pants, a plain colored shirt, and a scarf. Does anyone else agree with this? Or am I just crazy?

That being said, I decided to wear this anyway. I don't think I ended up looking like a typical college girl, but I'll let you guys be the judge of that. Let me know what you think!

Blue Feeling

Shirt: Theory
Camisole: Ralph Lauren
Pants: J.Crew
Shoes: Maria Sharapova for Cole Haan
Necklace: Betsey Johson
Earrings: Charter Club
Bag: Longchamp

Today is Wednesday. This means I get up super early for internship (4 a.m.) and have one evening class that goes until 9. So, whatever I wear has to be comfortable for the whole day - no matter what I am doing.

Like I mentioned last week, I know my minnie pants are going to be great for that! They are super stretchy, and stand out above the sea of skinny jeans at my school. Today I paired my minnie pants with one of my favorite button downs. Classy and sophisticated for my internship, but not too dressy for school.

For finishing touches, I stuck with gold accessories. My glittery flats proved to be a huge hit, and everyone at school loved them! How can you not? They are so shiny and sparkly, and will definitely catch anyone's eyes. Finally, just a simple double stranded necklace and pearl studs pulled everything together.

(Last!!) First Day of School

Sweater: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Pants: Lilly Pulitzer
Shoes: Minnetonka
Earrings: Charter Club
Bag: Longchamp
Belt: Gap

Today is my last first day of school. Okay, I think I said this in the beginning of last fall, but this time I'm serious! Today is really my last first day of school, quite possible forever. Like before, I am still nervous about what the future has to hold, but I am excited too. There are so many possibilities out there!

So for my last first day of school outfit, I decided to go for a preppy spin. I started with this black wool sweater. I know it looks pretty plain when you first look at it, but if you look closely, you'll see there is a brown suede patch on my right shoulder. I know it may seem kind of random, but I love it! It makes me feel like I should be riding horses or something. I'm not really sure why, but I like it!

To finish off my preppy ensemble, I paired the sweater with some dark denim and my brown moccasins. I decided to keep the accessories to a minimum today, so I just wore some pearl studs. This look is really toned down, which is very different than my usual looks, but sometimes that just feels right.

Panels of Gray

Dress: BCBG Max Azria
Shoes: Bandolino
Necklace: vintage
Headband: Juicy Couture
After one long month, I have finally been reunited with my room! Although I know this is for the last time, I am ready to make this semester one of my best ones yet. So, obviously that means looking my best as much as I can.

I started off today with this heather gray super soft wool (is that an oxymoron?) dress. Although I don't have to get dressed up for my internship at all, I still choose to. I figured this dress would look really nice for my internship, and would transition well for what I plan on doing the rest of tonight (dinner, men's basketball game, etc). Plus, I love the uneven hem - it's so different from other dresses out there! Next, I added my black leather boots. Perfect for chilly weather, and walking over black ice that has popped up over campus seemingly overnight.

Finally, I finished with some simple accessories: a black leather headband, and a vintage set of crystals.

Sample Sale + Crown Me Already

I am LOVING my nails this week. With all the new polishes I received for Christmas, it has been really difficult to choose what I want to use each week. This week was no exception. However, I finally decided on Sephora by OPI "Sample Sale" and OPI "Crown Me Already!"

Considering that the Miss America competition was just last Saturday, this glittery polish couldn't be more fitting (it was made for the Miss America OPI collection). I am happy to report that unlike my other full coverage OPI glitter "Gift of Gold," this polish actually stays on my nails and doesn't come off in full chunks! Perhaps it is because I put a thin coat of "Sample Sale" on my ring finger first. Either way, I am happy that my nails look a lot like this picture even a week later with no touch ups.

Okay and I am really loving the Sephora by OPI polish. I've never used their brand before, but I got a 6-piece box set, so I was bound to try it sometime. The application is really easy, even considering how little this brush is. Plus, I only had to do two coats, which is pretty good.

I would give my nails an A+ this week, but unfortunately my index and middle finger ran into something before my polish dried completely and I got big bubbles. Le sigh.

Cardigan: Ann Taylor
Tank: J. Crew
Pants: J. Crew
Shoes: Anne Klein
Bag: Longchamp
Headband: Juicy Couture

You're probably thinking "didn't she just wear that cardigan on Monday?" and "didn't she just talk about how much she loved those minnie pants on Wednesday?" Well if you were thinking that, you would be right. However, this is what happens when I am packing everything up to go back to school for the last time (!!)

Anyway, I was really only hanging around the house today and running last minute errands, so I didn't care too much about how I looked like. However, it's nice to feel pretty even on those kind of days.

Cashmere Cardigans and Minnies

Cardigan: BCBG Max Azria
Shirt (borrowed from mom): Tahari
Pants: J. Crew
Shoes: Lucky Brand
Necklace (borrowed from mom): Marc by Marc Jacobs
I'm only two and a half weeks into my internship, but I can already tell you that there are going to be two things I'll be wearing all the time: cashmere cardigans and J.Crew minnie pants.

I think the cashmere cardigans can speak for them self. Like I've mentioned before, I have to be up at an obscene hour (4 a.m) to be at the station by 5:15. So when I wake up, I'm usually exhausted and freezing. Cashmere cardigans to the rescue! They are so warm, but unlike a regular heavy sweater, they don't have you sweating to death by the end of the day. Plus, they are so comfy and soft! It's like having a blanket wrapped all over the upper half of your body, but it's actually clothing that is acceptable to wear to work.

Now let's talk minnie pants. Prior to Christmas break, this has been the only pair I had. However, over the semester I had been wearing them more and more frequently, so I decided that I wanted to get a couple of more pairs when I went shopping over my birthday. So, I bought a cherry tomato red pair, and a navy pair. They just haven't made an appearance on the blog yet. Anyway, here's why I love minnie pants. Number 1: it's like wearing leggings, but they are actually pants. Number 2: Unlike a lot of pairs of leggings, they aren't see though. Number 3: They are super stretchy, and allow you to eat whatever you like all day. In conclusion, these comfy pants are perfect for an early morning wake-up call.

Chunky Tomato Salsa

If there's one thing I love, it's salsa. I always have since I was a little kid, and find it to be the perfect complement to just about any Mexican dish. It's usually light, so it never overpowers anything else you're eating. However, it's wonderful on its own too. So, when I saw a bunch of left over vegetables that were on the verge of going bad, I decided to make salsa. Here's what I used to make it:

4 tomatoes
1 red bell pepper
1 green bell pepper
1/2 of an onion
1 handful of cilantro
2 tablespoons of lime juice
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 tablespoon of garlic
1/8 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper

1. Start by dicing up all the vegetables in bite size pieces. Ideally, you could use a mini chopper for uniformity, but I couldn't find ours so I just hand chopped.

2. Add all the spices and herbs. Make sure everything is blended in evenly with the vegetables.

It's that easy! Adjust spices and herbs as you see fit, but I think this makes for the perfect combination of flavorful salsa. Not too hot or overpowering.

End result:

Lacking Pizzazz

Cardigan (borrowed from mom): Ann Taylor
Cami: Calvin Klein
Pants: Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Shoes: Minnetonka
Bag: Longchamp
Belt: Gap

Just another day in intern wear! While I think this outfit is really cute, it doesn't do much for me other than that. For instance it could really use some jewelry, but unfortunately I left all my jewelry at school. However, in less than a week I'll be back at school and reunited with my wonderful closet of clothes again!

For now, I'll just continue to borrow anything I need from my mom. If I get lucky, sometimes she let's me keep stuff! Like this cardigan. After saying how cute she thought it looked on me, she told me I could keep it! Win, win.

I had this idea.

It was over winter break of my sophomore year, and I was bored hanging out around the house all day. Although I spent most of my time working, I was left looking for something else to do while I was home. Sure, I loved to read, bake, and watch movies, but I was looking for something more. Something that allowed me to express myself, but didn't take up a lot of my time or money.

That's when I had the idea for my fashion based blog, Sequins and Pearls. By that point, I had been reading fashion blogs for about two years, and had always wanted to start my own. However, I wasn't sure if I could do it. I'm always up for a challenge though, so I decided to make my humble little blog.

Two years later, I couldn't be happier that I started this blog. I have truly enjoyed spending a little time (almost) everyday writing, taking pictures of my outfits, and getting to know readers/other bloggers.

Looking at what my mission was when I first started my blog, one of the things I mentioned was be more confident in what I wear. I can gladly say that I think have! Although sometimes I look back on an outfit (even on ones that are only a couple of weeks old), and what wonder what the hell I was thinking, mostly I have grown to just be in confident in whatever I choose to wear.

So to anyone who has ever stopped by, read my rants, or commented, thank you. I hope you continue to keep reading, and let me know what you would like to see in the future! Pin It

Ruby Red Slippers

Oh geeze, looking at an up close inspection of my nails this week shows just how crappy of a job I did. Well to defend myself, it was late (10 p.m, but this is was the night before I needed to be up at 4 a.m), I was tired, and just wanted to have something different on my nails. This week, I decided on a new polish that I got for Christmas: Deborah Lippmann's "Ruby Red Slippers."

As usual, I don't think that my camera will ever truly be able to capture just how awesome my nail polish is. I actually think this one is very similar to Revlon's "Facets of Fuchsia." However, as opposed to that polish, this one is filled with deep ruby red hexagon glitters, and mini square glitters. What they do have in common is the deep colored base though, which means these glitters can actually be worn on their own! The only thing I have to complain about is that the color in the bottle looks A LOT different than what is on my nails. Just looking at the bottle, I thought there would be a lot more red glitter. But that's okay, I still like it a lot.

While I love this color now, I think it will be even better around Halloween. It's spooky and mysterious without being cheesy like traditional orange or black. What do you guys think?

Sausage Jambalya

You might remember me mentioning a couple of posts ago that one of my resolutions for this year was to cook more! Unfortunately, I know once I go back to school I won't be cooking at all. So, I've been trying to take advantage of the beautiful kitchen, fully stocked pantry, and tons of kitchen gadgets that I have at home while I can (because who knows just how much longer I'll be here)!

Anyway, the other day when I got home from my internship,I was starving! I was looking for something that would be super filling, easy to make, and wouldn't take a lot of time. It was then I remembered this recipe I've made many times before: sausage jambalaya. It's so easy, a novice in the kitchen like myself (or you, perhaps!) can do it. So I would definitely recommend trying this out. Let me know what you think if you do.

Sausage Jambalaya (adopted from an old Family Circle recipe)

1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon garlic
1/2 pound Cajun sausage (or Kielbasa, which is what I used) sliced into coins
1 onion, chopped
1 small green pepper, seeded and chopped
1 teaspoon Cajun or Creole seasoning
1 bay leaf
1 can stewed tomatoes Cajun style
1 can kidney beans (which I forgot of course)
2 cups low sodium chick broth
1 1/2 cups long grain rice
cilantro for garnish (optional)

1. Heat large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add olive oil, then sausage, onion, garlic, and pepper. Cook, stirring for 5 minutes or until onion is soft. Stir in seasoning and bay leaf, cook 1 more minute.

2. Add tomatoes, beans, broth, 1 1/2 cups water and rice; bring to a boil, then cover. Reduce heat to medium low and simmer 20 minutes or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed. Remove bay leaf.

That's it! See how easy it is? And doesn't it look delicious? YUM!

Sittin' Pretty

(LOL am I a style blogger yet? I'm looking at my feet!)

Cardigan (borrowed from mom): Ann Taylor
Tank: J. Crew
Skirt (borrowed from mom): Context
Shoes: Maria Sharapova for Cole Haan
Headband: Juicy Couture

More internship wear! This time, mostly thanks to my mom and her constantly expanding wardrobe. Despite the dreary skies that weathermen were predicting for Wednesday, I still wanted to look pretty for work. And honestly, I love this look! It's so feminine and girly, but it's still conservative, and shows that I am serious about work.

Again, I decided to wear my glittery gold flats today. Have I mentioned how comfortable they are yet? Well, they are. Originally, I was going to wear my black Coach pumps, but when I woke up this morning, I knew there was NO way that was happening! So I'm glad I stuck with my flats.

P.S - What do you guys think of my hair? I LOVE it. And you know what I really love? That I woke up this way, and didn't have to use a curling iron or flat iron when I woke up this morning. Perhaps a tutorial is in order in the future...

DIY: Glittery Binder Clips!

Do you guys ever get hit sometimes with the most random inspiration? Usually, I'm sparked by something awesome that I would never even think of on my own on Pinterest. However, sometimes I have my own awesome ideas, and like to share it with you guys. Let me introduce to you:

Boring, ugly, black binder clip.

Now I just got this awesome planner from Sarah Pinto, and was filling it in neatly with when I have to work, and various appointments I have before going back to school. It was then that it dawned on me that I needed something to hold pages together of the weeks that have gone by. So I went over to my desk, and decided that a binder clip would be the perfect thing. But then I clipped it to my planner, and hated how the dreary black looked against my cheerful polka dots. I know this is a little insignificant thing, but to me - that's what matters. So that's when I had my brilliant idea - use nail polish to decorate my binder clip! But not just any ordinary polish: GLITTER.

I decided on Deborah Lippman's "Happy Birthday" polish. I wasn't looking for something to completely cover the clip, but just something to make it much prettier. This multicolored mix of rainbow glitter was perfect for what I wanted.

So I got right to work on my clip. This is how it looked with just about two coats of polish. While I was working, I decided to decorate two more, just so I could have more clips for future uses.

From left to right all of my binder clips with just about 3 coats of nail polish: Deborah Lippmann's "Happy Birthday," OPI "Crown Me Already," and OPI "Gone Gonzo"

Finished sparkly project! I finished with a coat of Seche Vite over the glitter.

My new sparkly binder clip in my new planner! MUCH better.

Let me know if you guys make any! I want to see!

Intern Wear

Shirt: Ralph Lauren
Pants: Lilly Pulitzer
Shoes: Maria Sharapova for Cole Haan
Bag: Longchamp
Belt: Gap

Okay, so I know this isn't exactly the most exciting outfit around, but it's cute! Currently, I'm still on winter break, so I only have the essentials that I brought home with me, and the clothes I got while shopping on my birthday. Oh, and my mother's closet (but only when she's willing to share). Anyway, just because I'm on winter break doesn't mean that I haven't started my internship yet.

So far, I love it! I'm interning with a morning show at a big top 40 radio station in the D.C./Metro area, which means I'm up by 4 a.m. (yes, you read that right: 4 A.M) on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Considering that I have to be up that early, all of my outfits are picked the night before down to a t. I don't want to take any extra time away from my sleep than I already do, so simple is often best. That's why on Monday I stuck with one of my favorite preppy combinations: oxfords, dark skinny jeans, and ballet flats.

Also I would like to point out that I'm rocking two of my birthday gifts, my new Longchamp bag, and my glittery flats! Love, love, LOVE them both. This bag is basically the greatest thing ever - big enough for my water bottle, a notebook, my planner, wallet, keys, iPod, iPhone, and two wristlets. Just looking at that list pains me to think about how heavy my bag actually is, but it really isn't too bad! I think it helps that the bag is a nice light weight material..

Onto my flats. Like I mentioned in my Christmas/birthday haul, I'm been wearing these shoes all. the. time. However, I think this is their first appearance on the blog. No matter, it's certainly not going to be the last! They are so comfortable, fun, and go with just about every outfit! My only fear? That I will forget about my silver sequined Coach flats (kind of like when I got my Delia*s Warehouse boots and forgot about my great boots from BCBG). We'll see though, hopefully I can balance wearing both pairs equally!

What I got for Christmas and My Birthday!

Alright so I have to admit, I've been meaning this post for awhile. But working two jobs over winter break (at over 55+ hours a week), working on my departmental honors paper, helping my mom around the house, and sleeping, I can't say that I've had much in the way of time. However despite this, I try to make a little time everyday for my blog. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. But normally when I do, I'm not in the mood to do too much work, so I just write something up that I had already had planned.

With that being said, I knew this was the kind of post that would take me a little longer than usual to do. I would have to gather up all my new possessions, take pictures, then write something up. But somehow this week, I found time to do it! So without further ado, here is (almost) everything I got for Christmas and my birthday this year. Since my 21st birthday was just four days after Christmas, I decided to just include it in this post too. Hope you guys enjoy!

*I say almost because I didn't photograph everything. For example, candy, ornaments, and other various small things that I had already put away or ate!

Let me just start by saying that every year since I was about 13, I can remember my parents saying "this is going to be a small Christmas this year, don't expect too much." However every year, Christmas gets bigger and bigger. This year was no exception, and I was completely flabbergasted by all the stuff I got. Now don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm not appreciative, because I am, but I was just absolutely stunned. My parents idea of a "small" Christmas, would hardly be considered small by most people. Anyway, here's what I got!

Bliss body butter, body wash, travel sized body wash, and sugar scrub in one of my all time favorite scents: blood orange and white pepper. This stuff is the absolutely BEST. I started using Bliss products regularly after a stay at the W hotel in NYC in 10th grade, and just couldn't get enough of them since then. I was happy to replenish my dwindling stock :)

Coach Poppy perfume, travel sized lotion, and travel sized roller ball perfume. I've never tried the scent before, but my mom said the sales girl at Macy*s said this is the most popular scent. I've tried it once so far and I really like it! It's light and fresh, and it doesn't smell like flowers (which I don't really like the smell of). And it came in this beautiful box, which I am equally as excited about! Now I just have to decide what I am going to store in it.

Lots of glitter nail polish! Do my family and friends know me well or what? From left to right, Sally Hansen gem crush in "bling-tastic," Deborah Lippmann "happy birthday," OPI "crown me already," OPI "gone gonzo" Deborah Lippmann "ruby red slippers," and Sally Hansen gem crush "lady luck." I've only tried happy birthday so far, but I'm excited to try the others!

Britney Spears Radiance perfume, lotion, and body wash. Like the Coach scent, I've never used this perfume before, but I have always been a fan of her perfumes in the past. I'm sure this one will not disappoint!

Valentines Day, Gossip Girl Season 4, The Help, and a $25 iTunes gift card. I've needed iTunes money for months now, so I was super happy about that. Plus, Gossip Girl is my go to tv show to watch when I'm bored or not feeling good, and I never got the 4th season when it came out. Plus The Help and Valentines Day are movies I know I would watch over and over again, so I asked for them.

Lilly Pulitzer reusable snack bags! Definitely one of my favorite gifts. These are perfect for my eco-friendly fashion conscious self for bringing snacks with me to my internship, school, or work. Plus, they are machine washable! Love it. Oh and more pretty boxes! YAY!

Baby it's cold outside scarf and earmuffs from Kate Spade! Now I can't lie that I have been lusting for these ever since I first saw them online. So you can imagine my surprise when I got both of them for Christmas! I'm happy to add that they are just as cute in person as they are online. Now only if it was a little cooler. Plus the packaging? To die for! Can't wait to find some use for that box. (Can you tell I'm obsessed with packaging yet?)

Betsey Johnson socks! Wearing boots as often as I do, I always need lots of socks. So, I liked to wear something cute and fun underneath.

New Victoria's Secret pajamas! Every year since I was about 10, I've gotten a new pair of pajamas for Christmas. First, it was Old Navy, and by about 15 I migrated to the VS pajamas. They always have the cutest patterns, and they come with free slippers! These are super comfy and cute for wearing around the dorm. Plus, they have pockets!

My Christmas candy weakness? Peppermint Bark (and Andes mints). If you've never had peppermint bark before, you need to have some NOW. It's delicious! It's usually white chocolate with peppermint pieces crushed into it or on top. So delish! Oh and more packaging! Love.

Crystal nail files and make-up brush cleaner. I'm actually really excited to try out the files, I've read a lot of good things about them, so we'll see how they do. Plus the pink polka dots are too cute!

Okay wow, major electronics haul. I got two new lenses this year, a fixed and a zoom lens. I also got CS5, which has Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign on it. Now I won't have to make any more late night treks to the arts building to work on graphics and photo projects, woohoo! Oh, and I also got a GPS. My mom worries about me driving and getting lost all the time, so I'm pretty sure this was her idea.

Victoria's Secret yoga pants. OMG how have I live my whole life without these? These pants are the most wonderful comfy things ever. If I didn't have my blog, I may just consider living in them.

Maria Sharapova for Cole Haan glitter flats. Okay I've been in love with these since I saw them a couple of weeks ago on Nordstrom. I knew my mom wasn't going to go for something that wasn't at all on sale, but she decided this was my birthday treat. Let me tell you, I've worn them several times already! They are probably one of the most comfortable pairs of flats I own (even on the first wear), and they just add such an extra fun sparkle to everything!

Minnetonka moccasins! Now I can probably do away with my two pairs of Target mocs that are completely trashed. But you know, maybe not...

A new Coach bag and wristlet! I have to say, this really blew me away. I wasn't expecting any new purses this year, but somehow my mom always surprises me. I really love this bag! It's very different from the ones I already have, and it is perfect for carrying all of my necessities with me to my internship and work.

A le Pilage bag! I already have a little hand held one, but this one can actually be slung over my shoulder. Again, another great bag for toting my stuff to my internship. Plus, the color goes with everything. (And I promise my bag is nowhere near as wrinkly as it looks in the picture!)

More nail polish!! I am honestly overwhelmed by how much nail polish I have received. So, I've decided I really need to cut back. No more nail polish for a LONG time. And I really mean it. (I even resisted the free Zoya nail polish deal one of my friends told me about - and that was really hard!!)

A super cute necklace stand, and these fun red and pink necklace and bracelet set from Kate Spade. So cute!

Like I said, this definitely was not a small Christmas. But I am extremely grateful for everything, and I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas as well! What was your favorite gift?
