Leap Day Rant

Blazer: Target
Tank: J. Crew
Pants: J. Crew

Necklace: BCBG Max Azria

Happy Leap Day everyone! Is today even real? I've been talking with some of my friends today, and we've decided that today never actually happened. I mean, how can a day that only happens every four years be considered real? So if anything bad happened today, fear not! That was actually an illusion.

Thank goodness, because not only did my 3:55 a.m. alarm not go off, neither did my 4:00 a.m. or 4:10 a.m. So I overslept. Until 6:15, which by that point means there's no point of me even bothering going in for the show (it's a 45 minute drive from school). So I was feeling pretty mad at myself. Of course, I immediately called my boss, who surprisingly wasn't mad at all. He remembered that I had been sick on Monday, and asked if I was still sick today. Of course I said yes, and he immediately told me not to worry about it. I felt bad, honestly. I am NEVER late to work. So on the rare occasion when it does happen, I don't get my head chopped off for it.

Anyway, I already had my outfit all laid out from the night before and decided not to change it up just because I had more time. Thankfully I didn't because it poured all day long. This outfit did a pretty good job of combating the rain - minus the white tank top. There were a couple of times of day when the rain stopped, so I would leave my umbrella in my room while I was out. Of course the rain would start back up, and I ended up with a semi see-though top. Classy, I know. Otherwise, perfect. I don't understand why people wear jeans on rainy days - they always get all wet and gross at the bottom! On rainy days, I would recommend a skirt with boots or pants tucked into boots. Both of these options leave you nice and dry on the bottom, which is a something to keep in mind when you can't change all day.

Okay wow - that's enough of a rant. Tomorrow is March, and I can't wait for the new month to begin! In March, I'm celebrating my three year anniversary with my boyfriend, spending spring break in Florida, and becoming one month closer to being done college! What are you guys looking forward to?

Dress Rut!

Blazer: Diane Von Furstenburg
Dress: Vertical Designs by Lord and Taylor
Necklace: Claire*s
Shoes: Minnetonka

I'm always the first to admit my faults. So, that's why I have no problem saying I'm in a dress rut! Now, don't get me wrong, I love this cashmere dress from Lord and Taylor. It's the softest material ever, and has a great cut that would flatter every body shape. However, every time I wear it, I always wear it the same way! I pull out these fringe boots, add a sweater or cardigan of some sort, and this multicolored necklace (see here and here for examples).

Now that I finally realized what a rut I am in with this dress, I need help with other ways to wear it! Do any of you guys have suggestions?

P.S. - Also, I'm not pregnant. That's just my food baby!

Pretending it's really Spring

Shirt: J. Crew
Skirt: Theory
Scarf: gift
Shoes: Target
Earrings: H&M
Belt: Gap
Thank GOODNESS I always lay my clothes out the night before of my internship! I don't usually ever wake up late, but when I do - it's bad. I'm always in a rush, and am running around everywhere like a chicken with my head cut off. Today just happened to be one of those days. However, because this cute springy outfit was already laid out on my desk, I was able to rush out of my room in four minutes (seriously, I timed it).

I'm so happy that the weather has been so unseasonably warm and is allowing me to wear stuff like this at the end of February. These knock off Keds and denim mini skirt makes everything feel a little more carefree, even though I have tons of things going on right now. Paired with classic navy blue, white, and electric green for a fun punch, I'm almost convinced it's spring!

A week in iPhone Photos

1. Sporting my new Betsy Johnson sunglasses for the first time this year.

2. Pomagranite and Tangerine gelato in DC

3. Using neon pink and gold glitter nail polish to label my new USB.

4. King Cake on Fat Tuesday.

5. The many marks that were made to the first 17 pages of my honors paper...

6. Bus ride home after a long day in DC

7. Aviators and wind blown hair on a sunny day.

8. Well deserved red velvet soft serve after a 2.5 mile run.

9. Homemade angel food cake, strawberries and nutella.

10. My "engagement ring" from one of my best friends now that gay marriage is essentially legal in Maryland.

I haven't done a week in iPhone photos in FOREVER. I decided that I'm bringing it back though, because it used to be one of my favorite things to do. I apologize in advance to anyone who follows me on twitter and has seen these already.

If you're not though, you should follow me here. And I'm on instagram too (heytherekatrina)! Pin It

False Alarm..It's Not Really Spring

Shirt: Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Skirt: Old Navy
Shoes: Target
Belt: Cole Haan
Necklace: Erickson Beamon for Target

I was SO excited for today when I saw what the forecast was: mid 60s and sunny! I remember it being unseasonably warm like this last February, and I couldn't be happier about it. Clearly it's a sign of global warming, but there's nothing I can do about that.

Anyway, I knew I wanted to wear something to show off my legs. Not that I don't do that anyway during the winter, but I wanted to wear something that I didn't need to wear my boots with. So, I decided on this coral colored mini skirt. I was pretty limited in my options because I don't have any of my summer dresses with me on campus, so this was good choice.

I decided to pair it with my chambray button down. I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but I like the combination! The colors perfectly balance each other for a casual and cute look. Paired with a multicolored layered necklace, fake keds, and a skinny brown belt, I couldn't be more ready for the spring weather to arrive!

Spring is on its way!

Shirt: Ralph Lauren
Pants: Mavi
Belt: Gap
Shoes: Maria Sharapova for Cole Haan
Bag: Longchamp
Sunglasses: Betsey Johnson
Necklace: France

You should have seen me this morning originally. When I put on this outfit at 4 a.m., I was not feeling so hot. I had pulled my hair back in a loose pony tail, wasn't wearing a necklace, had not tucked in my shirt : I was a mess. However, with the sun streaming through my window the whole way home, I knew it was time for a little makeover when I got back. I pulled my hair into a loose ballerina bun (which is much cuter), tucked in my shirt so you could see that I was wearing a belt, and added this little necklace for a pop of color.

Like yesterday, this is something that I should of easily thought of on my own. However, I thought about this for awhile. When I finally thought about it in my head, I couldn't believe I had not thought of it before! I really love how it came out: casual and simple. Like I mentioned yesterday, simple really is better. Although you definitely would not have been able to make that statement come out of my mouth a couple of years ago, I have came around. As my style has evolved in college, I have really began to rely on simple, classic pieces that will always look timeless.

Thank you Pinterest. Again.

Shirt: Theory
Camisole: Ralph Lauren
Pants: BCBGeneration
Shoes: Lauren Ralph Lauren
I would like Pinterest yet again for outfit inspiration. When I originally saw this pin, I instantly loved how the outfit looked. At the same time, I couldn't believe I had never thought of the idea before! In essence, the outfit is so simple: it's just a plain button down shirt paired with black skinny jeans. But despite how simple it is, it's so effortlessly chic!

However, leave it to me to take anything that would otherwise be "effortless" and add a pair of three-inch black leather stilettos to take it somewhere else entirely. It's the first time this pair has left my room (after sitting in the back of my closet for four months) and I couldn't love them anymore! They are easily the sexiest shoe ever: perfect pointy toe, classic color, and perfect height. Love it!

Overall, I am completely loving this outfit. It just reminds me (in my sometimes over the top world) that less really is more.

Relatively Hardcore

Jacket: Romeo and Juliet Couture
Dress: Guess
Belt: Charlotte Russe
Shoes: Bandolino
Sunglasses: Betsey Johnson
Headband: Juicy Couture

After my internship today, my parents and boyfriend came to go out to dinner with me (just because)! Sometimes, I love just randomly going out somewhere special and spending time with loved ones. Can't beat it.

So, I knew I definitely wanted to wear a dress. I had been thinking about this combination for awhile now, and finally decided to wear it today. I think I was originally inspired from a post I saw on Pinterest, but now I can't remember. Anyway, I love how this turned out! My black leather jacket and leather boots gave this otherwise sweet dress a totally badass feel. However, as not to come off as too over the top, I kept accessories to a minimal with a skinny gold belt and my favorite headband.

Allure and Crown Me Already

With Valentine's Day this past week, I had wanted to do something festive and feminine with my nails without being over too over the top. So for the first half of the week, I went with Essie's allure, a super pale pink polish. For the tips, I used OPI's Crown Me Already to give the appearance of my nails being "frosted" with diamonds (does that remind of anyone else of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days?)

Casual Friday

Cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer
Shirt: Ralph Lauren
Pants: Delia*s
Shoes: Minnetonka
Earrings: Charter Club
Bag: Longchamp
Belt: Gap

As if getting up at 4 a.m. on Monday and Wednesday was bad, Friday is the WORST. I don't think that it helps that none of my friends who are seniors have classes, but I think it's mostly because I haven't done anything on Fridays since the fall of my sophomore year. Which was over two year ago, and shows just how spoiled I have been.

Either way, it makes it just that much more difficult to pick out something to wear. Okay, it's not exactly hard to find something casual, but it can be kind of hard to be inspired on Thursday nights. Today, I kept it super low key with a cardigan, a plain t-shirt, and moccasins. Can't go wrong, right?

Preppy and I know it

Sweater: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Skirt: J.Crew
Shoes: Lucky Brand
Headband: Juicy Couture
After my obnoxious colored Valentines Day outfit yesterday, this is quite the neutral color palette. However, my style is pretty versatile, so I have no problem switching back and forth between super bright prints and earth tone pieces.

Anyway, today I'm feeling really preppy. Actually, I've noticed this semester I have been dressing a lot preppier than usual. Perhaps that's because this is my last semester, but I'm not sure. Either way, it's not something I have a problem with.

Happy Valentines Day!

Jacket: DKNY
Shirt: Victoria's Secret
Skirt: Charlotte Russe
Shoes: Maria Sharapova for Cole Haan
Headband: BCBG Max Azria
Necklace: Kate Spade
Bag: Kate Spade

I don't think I could be a bigger eye sore on campus if I tried - but I love it! A couple of years ago, you could have never gotten me to wear an outfit like this out in public. While I would have loved looking at it on the mannequin, I would have never gone through with it. But that's what I love about blogging! It pushes me to try things I never would have tried before, which is awesome.

So let me just count the reasons I love this outfit:
1. Red + Pink TOGETHER. Such a great color combination that I am definitely going to wear in the future!
2. Glitter. Can never go wrong with a little extra sparkle.
3. It's comfortable. Stretchy, stretchy, stretchy!

Geeze, not as many as I though. I really love this though, I just can't really explain why.

What do you guys think?

Surprise, surprise.

Shirt: Forever 21
Pants: Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Shoes: Anne Klein
Bracelets: Delia*s Warehouse Sale

Little did  I know, my boyfriend took the day off work - just for me. He came down today as an early Valentines day surprise (since I have class all day Tuesday), just to spend the day with me! So, I'm glad I looked pretty cute today, considering I had no idea that he was coming down.

I love how romantic this look is even though I'm not wearing pink or red. However, this lacy top and loose waves make for the perfect feminine look without going too overboard the day before Valentines Day. However, just wait until tomorrow! I have the PERFECT red and pink outfit picked out.

Blingtastic and Black Shatter

For this weeks manicure, I thought I would break out the black shatter again. I know this isn't as popular as it used to be last year, but I still really like it. The only problem was that mine had gotten really goopy, making it almost impossible to apply thinly so it would shatter properly. However, with a little help from Seche Vite's nail polish thinner, I was able to get it back to a normal consistency.

Under the shatter, is one of my new glitter polishes that I got for Christmas - Sally Hansen Blingtastic. Overall, I really like the formula. It applies nicely, and I got a pretty good coverage after just three coats (which was plenty when I was putting the black shatter on top). The only thing I don't really like is the brush, which was a little bit thick for my preferences. But other than that, a good buy! The gem crush collection from Sally Hansen has a bunch of different glitters, so I would definitely recommend that you guys check it out!

Feelin' the Blues

Cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer
Tank: Victoria's Secret
Pants: Lilly Pulitzer
Boots: Minnetonka

Scarf: gift

When you don't know what to wear, monochromatic is the way to go. I mean it's foolproof, really. Just pull contrasting shades of a certain color, and it should work! I was having one of those mornings, to this worked well for me. My color of course, was blue. And who doesn't have enough blue in their closet to do a monochromatic look?

I started with my dark denim skinny jeans, which of course, go with everything. But work with me people. For the rest of my blue ensemble, I decided on a navy blue cardigan, and a robin's egg blue tank top (that I don't think you can really soon). Too keep things from being too boring for my liking, I wore my fringed suede boots, a soft patterned scarf, and some simple bronze dangling earrings.
