Friendship Anniversary Wear

Dress: Bailey 44
Cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer
Necklace: Erickson Beamon for Target
Shoes: Maria Sharpova for Cole Haan
Earrings: American Eagle

My friends and I can be pretty dorky sometimes (and by us, I mostly mean me). Anyway, every year I celebrate "friendship anniversaries," with some of my closest friends from college. What is a friendship anniversary, you ask? Well, it's the day we "officially" became friends. Depending on which one of my friends it is, depends on how we officially became friends in the first place.

Okay, the point of this completely unnecessary story is that last Thursday was one of those friendship anniversaries. So, my friend Bridgitte and I decided to go out to this fun Mexican restaurant in downtown Frederick. I wanted something comfy and cute, because I knew we would be walking around quite a bit.

My outfit was perfect for our date; strolling downtown, sipping sangria's, and munching on chips and salsa. The cardigan was perfect for when a breeze came through, and my Cole Haan flats with Nike technology didn't cause any blisters with all of our walking. However, I hadn't been planning on walking home in a torrential downpour. That was the end of my super cute outfit.

Moral of the story: always carry an umbrella, and don't walk when you can drive.

Mom's Seal of Approval

Top: Thrifted
Pants: J. Crew
Shoes: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Earrings: Alfani
Bracelets: Coach, Segio Lub, and Lenox

At first, I was relatively apprehensive about wearing my J. Crew minnie pants for an interview. Perhaps it's because I wear my dressy clothes all the time that some of the pieces in my wardrobe lose their "special" feel. I think it's also partially because I always want to wear a dress or skirt to an interview. However, my mom (the resident expert on work appropriate ensembles), assured me they would be okay.

I paired them with this beaded turquoise blouse I picked up in a thrift store in NYC. As usual, I forgot to take a picture of the back (which is cooler than the front)! Instead of just a normal back, there is a u-shaped collar that has a big floppy bow in the center. Again, I was uncertain about wearing this for my interview, and my mom said it was fine. Um, can someone tell me why my mom had more fashion knowledge (and confidence) than me?

For finishing touches, I added a stack of silver bracelets, and blue and green dangling earrings. Finally, I pulled out my favorite pair of stilettos. If there's one thing I don't have to ask my mom's opinion for, it's that nothing makes you feel more confident walking into a room than a sexy pair of high-heels.

Hello, Fall.

Shirt: Lord and Taylor
Pants: Michael Kors
Scarf: Target
Bracelet: Kate Spade
Shoes: Maria Sharapova for Cole Haan

To me, this is the perfect fall outfit. After months of wearing sun-dresses, gladiator flats, and tank-tops, it's a welcome change to be pulling out scarves and ballet flats again.

Although I wasn't doing anything today other than nannying, I can't stand letting my beautiful clothes just hang out in my closet not getting worn. So, I decided on this relatively casual ensemble (at least for me). I started with these new super dark-wash skinny jeans. I love that they can be easily dressed down, but could just as easily be dressed up with a cute top and heels. Plus, they are super comfy - perfect for when I am lying on the floor coloring or reading during story time.

The rest of my outfit reminds me of a candy cane. It's not quite Christmas season yet, but the pink and white together just makes me think of peppermint. With the addition of my glittery flats and my most recent stolen piece of jewelry from my mom's closet, I was good to go.

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed (but no blue)!

Dress: Vertical Designs by Lord and Taylor
Scarf: BCBG Max Azria
Shoes: Maria Sharapova for Cole Haan
Bracelet: Kate Spade

For once, I wore this dress differently than how I typically do. It was really hard to for me to stray away from my fringed boots and multicolored necklace - they add the perfectly bohemian touch! But, I'm proud to say I tried something new.

As for the something old and something borrowed? Well, my dress is about four years old. However, I think it is such a timeless piece. No matter when I wear it, it always looks current and chic. This just proves the importance of investing in quality and timeless clothing - these pieces will never go out of style.

Of course, I had to borrow something from my mom. For me, it's not an outfit unless I borrow (or steal) something from mom. This time, it's this Kate Spade cranberry and plum bauble bracelet. Although it's a little chunky for everyday wear, it was the perfect accessory for a nice dinner out for my brothers birthday.

A week in Instagram

Per usual, here is what my life looked like through the lens of Instagram in the past week. If you want to follow me, my username is heytherekatrina. Looking for me on Twitter? Click here to follow me.

1. As I mentioned here, the night I saw Bruce Springsteen in concert was the best day of my life. Okay, so I was a little far away. It didn't matter a bit.

2. This was the sunset looking towards the National Monument from Nationals Park that evening. I love fall weather.

3. On Sunday, my friends and I went to the Maryland Wine Festival for some classy day drinking. Plus, there were tons of free samples, craft vendors, and great live bands!

4. This is a super latergram, but I love the message. I saw it while running in downtown Frederick one day, and couldn't help but stop. It's one of those kind of things that really makes you pause and appreciate your life.

5. Another evening, another pretty sunset.

6. This is what I'm currently reading. Over the weekend, I finished 11/22/63 (which was AMAZING), and I read The Help for about the fifth time. Now, I'm working on the last book in the Hunger Games series and Cruel Love. I have quite the eclectic taste in books, huh?

7. Saturday's mean one thing - grocery shopping. Thankfully, that includes always includes Wegmans, the premier shopping location in the Colum-bubble.

8. The boy and I spent Saturday exploring in a new nature center near my house. We had perfect weather, and the trails were great for hiking.

9. Saturday evening, we played Scrabble. In case you were wondering, I already know that we act like a 90-year-old married couple. We're happy like this.

10. I make smoothies all the time - they are such an easy way to get your daily nutrients! Today's smoothie included orange juice, strawberries, raspberries, and pineapple. Yum!

Casual Friday

Shirt: Old Navy
Skirt: Express
Shoes: Minnetonka
Bag Longchamp
Necklace: Claire*s

Now that I *kind of* have a job (aka being a nanny), Friday has started to mean something again. Before, it was just another day in my week. Now that I am waking up at 5:30 a.m. again, I am always ready for Friday and the weekend. It's the little things, people.

Even though I didn't really have plans, I wanted to look nice for when my boyfriend came up later. Plus - it was the last official day of summer! Although I personally feel like summer ended awhile ago, today was the official last day. In my mind, that meant I had to wear a mini-skirt one last time.

This mini-skirt from Express is one of my favorites. Not only did I get it for a great price, it is super feminine and versatile. The flowers on the skirt are purple, green, light blue, and turquoise, which means I always have something that will match. This time, I decided on this teal 3/4 sleeve tee, a great transitional piece for the fall. Finally, I finished off with my suede moccasins and a long stranded pearl necklace. Let fall officially begin!

Merino Cool and Facets of Fuchsia

Wow - it's been nearly a month since I've done my nails! I guess things have been pretty busy. But now that it's beginning to feel more like fall everyday, I wanted to start using some of my cooler colored nail polishes. Out with the hot pinks and fiery reds, in with shades of gray, navy blue, and maroon.

This week, I decided to go with Essie's "Merino Cool." Although I got the polish sometime last year, this is my first time using it. Unfortunately, the color didn't translate very well in my photos. Here, it looks 100 percent gray. In real life, it's a little easier to see how it's mostly gray, with some purple tones. It's an interesting color, to say the least. Definitely not my favorite, but a good fall shade.

For my ring fingers, I used one of my favorite glitters, Revlon's "Facets of Fuschia." This glittery has a murky deep purple base with purple hexagonal pieces. Super easy application, and a really fun color!

Wine Fest Chic

Cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer
Dress: Nine West
Shoes: Steve Madden
Necklace: Lauren Ralph Lauren

This weekend, I was off to the Maryland wine festival. Basically, it's an excuse to sample just about every wine that is made in the great state of Maryland, pick at tons of free food, and hang out with my friends from college.

Thankfully, we had perfect weather for the occasion. Of course, this meant I was definitely going to wear one of my sun dresses - it was one of my last opportunities! I paired it with a light cardigan, my favorite necklace at the moment, and simple sandals. This look is really basic, but sometimes that's what works best.

Cross One off the Bucket List

Tank: Neiman Marcus Last Call
Pants: Eileen Fisher
Shoes: Steve Madden
Wristlet: Coach
Necklace: vintage

Last Friday night, I was able to cross something off my bucket list - seeing a Bruce Springsteen concert! Of course, now that I have seen him live once, I definitely want have to go again. Let me just say, there is a good reason why his concerts are legendary, and always sell out.

1. He gives you your money's worth. The concert started a little after 8 p.m., and didn't finish until almost midnight. Considering he's the one and only act, that's highly impressive.

2. He has SO much energy. At 62 years old, he has more energy combined than most bands composed of 20 somethings. Throughout the entire concert, he is running all over the stage, singing his heart out, and doing tricks with his guitar.

I'm so happy I had the opportunity to go at least one Bruce Springsteen concert in my lifetime. Ever since I stole my mom's copy of "The Rising" in about 2002, I have been a fan of The Boss. However, tickets are usually expensive, and sell out quickly. When I found out he would be in D.C. this spring, I knew I had to get tickets. And I did.

For the concert, I wanted to wear something comfy and pretty - I wanted to be able to dance around freely! I decided on jeans and a t-strap tank, which was perfect for the beautiful evening. And this time when I took outfit photos, I finally remembered to take a picture of the back of my tank. Isn't it pretty? It takes this simple white tank to a completely different level.

Wow, I am all over the place today. My organized self will be back tomorrow, I promise!

Plum and Leopard

Sweater: Burberry
Skirt L.K Bennett
Shoes: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Necklace: Betsey Johnson

This fall, I knew my biggest fashion dilemma was going to be figuring out how to wear clothing that was not coral. However, I have found out how I am going to make is through this difficult time - with deep purple and cranberry. Fear not, blog readers. I know you were truly concerned.

Thankfully, both of these colors look just as good on my pasty pale skin as coral does. Unfortunately, I don't really have a lot of pieces in these colors (figures). Which means I finally get to do some shopping - woohoo!

Anyway, in case you couldn't tell, I was off to yet another interview today. I have good feeling about this one though! I have come so far this summer, coming so close to landing the job many times, but in the end getting beat out by someone who had more experience than me. However, this job seems to be the perfect fit. So I'm staying hopeful, crossing my fingers and trying to be patient.

For my interview, I decided to do something a little different than normal. Actually, my mom suggested pairing these two pieces together. She had seen an ad in the fall issue of In Style for L.K Bennett in which the model was wearing a similar combination, and thought it might be something I could copy. Although my outfit isn't really like what the model is wearing, it's my own interpretation, and I love how this look turned out! It's something that I would have never though of on my own,  yet the pieces complement each other so well.

Smooth Transitions

Sweater: Old Navy
Skirt Lilly Pulitzer
Shoes: Minnetonka
Necklace: Charter Club
Bag: Coach

Oh hi blogsosphere, pasty-pale redhead here, it's nice to meet you too.

It's really starting to feel like fall in Maryland, and I am loving it! Although the mornings have been freezing, by mid-afternoon, the weather is absolutely delightful. However, like I have mentioned in previous posts, I can't quite switch over entirely from my summer wardrobe yet.

So that's why today I took a piece from my summer and winter wardrobe for the perfect intro into fall outfit. The result? A perfectly preppy ensemble. My light sweater provides just the right amount of warmth when I'm in my air-conditioned car too long, while my seersucker mini-skirt lets me attempt to soak a little more sun on my legs while hanging out at the playground. Unforunately, my skirt looks like it's just plain white in these photos, which is so not the case. Here's what it really looks like.

For finishing touches, I added a simple pearl necklace and suede moccasins. Getting dressed can't get much easier than this!

A week in Instagram

I take too many photos of breakfast/snack/lunch/dinner/dessert. There, I said it. Okay, I think we all kind of recognize that half the photos on Instagram are of food. I can't really explain why we're all so compelled to share pictures of what were eating on a daily basis. Really, who cares? But whatever. I'm posting my photos anyway.

P.S - If you aren't already, follow me on Instagram (heytherekatrina) and Twitter to stay up-to-date with me!

1. Homemade white-chocolate pretzels with rainbow sprinkles. Yes, please.

2. Daily snack: cheese, crackers, and pepperoni, and almonds.

3. Red velvet, cream-cheese filling, and white-chocolate glaze. Need I say more?

4. One last summer day at the beach in Atlantic City.

5. I had to buy more Urban Decay vintage eye shadow. Are you kidding me? Six dollars? No, I can't resist temptation. Neither can you.

6. Nerd ropes were in the clearance section for only .38 cents at Walgreens last week. I bought six. (Remember how I can't resist temptation?)

7. I picked all the charms out of the Lucky Charms cereal. Typical OCD fashion.

8. Seeing some of my favorite alums, and hanging out in downtown Frederick.

9. Lunch today: a peanut butter sandwich with fresh strawberries and raspberries. So much better than regular  jelly.

10. Daily greeting from Mittens, the dog from the family I nanny for. Pin It

Never Forget

Shirt: American Eagle
Shorts: J. Crew
Shoes: Sperry
Earrings: Nordstrom Rack
Bracelet: Juicy Couture
Wristlet: Coach
I don't usually do emotional posts on my blog. For the most part, I try to have a positive, upbeat spin on whatever is going on in my life. This is not one of those time. So, if you're not interested on my post about where I was September 11, 2001, feel free to skip reading this post.
