Black on Black

Shirt: Betsey Johnson
Skirt: BCBG Max Azria
Shoes: Coach
Earrings: H&M

Black is really not my color. Although I don't mind wearing black jeans, black pencil skirts, or a black blazer every once in awhile, head-to-toe black is hardly my style. I like to think that I have a bright, bubbly, and loud personality, and wearing black just doesn't suit that. I am much happier wearing cheerful colors like yellow, aqua, and pink.

Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is that this outfit isn't me. And when you go into and interview, you want to wear something that show off your personality without being too over the top. I guess that's what I get for picking my outfit out the day of my interview (so not me)! Live and learn.

Oktoberfest

Shirt: Ralph Lauren
Pants: Eileen Fischer
Shoes: Lucky Brand
Necklace: Kate Spade

Last weekend, I was up in Frederick to go to Oktoberfest with some of my friends from college. Although the event ended up being a bust, I was happy to enjoy the crisp fall weather and spend some time with my friends.

For the event, I wanted to wear some of my favorite fall essentials. Other than the sweater and scarf combination that I wore the other day, I can't think of anything more fall than a classic Ralph Lauren button-down, dark-rinse skinny jeans, and riding boots. To keep my outfit from being to stale, I added this chunky Kate Spade necklace. The cranberry, oxblood, and magenta baubles add the perfect pop to my ensemble. Pin It

The Spy Who Loved Me and Gettin' Miss Piggy With It

The newest OPI collection, Skyfall is the first one that I've been excited about in awhile. Prior to this collection, the last one I was really excited about was OPI's collaboration with The Muppets. Since that one, I have found most of their collections to be bland and uninspiring. Maybe it's because all of these polishes looked shimmery. I can never resist glittery nail polish!

The first one I decided to try is "The Spy Who Loved Me". I would describe the color as a tomato red with red and gold shimmer.  I think this would be the perfect polish for the holidays! It reminds me of Christmastime and holly. As with most OPI polishes, this has a great application. All you need is two coats for full coverage, but I went with three just to be sure.

And because I can never just do one solid color, I decided to use OPI's "Gettin' Miss Piggy With It", for my ring fingers. Although it takes five or six coats to get fully opaque, I think the red and silver glitter is a pretty complement.

My overall impression of the Skyfall collection so far? I love it! I think the colors are different, but still pretty and wearable. I can't wait until I can get my hands on "Goldeneye"! Pin It

Sequins and Leather

Jacket: Romeo and Juliet Couture
Dress: I.N.C
Shoes: Coach
Earrings: Betsey Johnson

Well, would you look at that. I'm wearing my black leather jacket yet again. I couldn't help myself! It's warm, soft, and it makes me look like a badass. I would say that's a win.

I wore this to one of the weirdest renditions of Jeckyl and Hyde that I have ever seen. Now, let me be clear, I have seen plenty of obscure and strange shows in the past 10 years. However, this show really took the cake. First of all, no one said anything the entire length of the show. I think that should explain it all.

Anyway, at least I looked good! I really like the combination of the sequins and the leather together. I would describe it as "glamorously tough." At the same time, it's such a simplistic pairing. Okay, well maybe not for most people. But for me, this is as simple as it gets. Jacket, dress, shoes, and I'm out the door!

Nanny Style!

Shirt: Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Pants: Mavi
Shoes: Minnetonka
Earrings: gift

I hope you read the title of this post to the tune of "Gangam Style." If you didn't, something is seriously wrong with you. Or maybe you just live under a rock. Definitely one of the two.

For today's outfit, I decided to pick a couple of my favorite pieces out of my closet and see what happened. I was just nannying, so if the outfit was a total bust it was no big deal. Fortunately, I kind of like how the end result came out! Not only was this outfit super comfortable, it was perfect for all my roles as a nanny. Whether I was helping with homework, making snacks, or running around in the backyard, nothing about my ensemble stopped me from running around with the kids.

A week in Instagram

As always, here's what my life has looked like through the lens of Instagram. Again, please note my every effort to take less photos of my food.

P.S. - Follow me on Instagram (heytherekatrina) and Twitter!

1. Looking up at my zebra print umbrella on a rainy day.

2. Zebra print on zebra print! I just can't get enough.

3. The sky while driving into Silver Spring, Md. on Tuesday. Doesn't it look ominous?

4. I wasn't sure how these vanilla cupcake flavored goldfish were going to taste. Let me be honest. I ate the whole bag in two days. That good.

5. I couldn't help but notice these beautiful fall leaves while hanging out at my alma mater. I love the contrast of the red against the cloudless blue sky.

6. I seriously can't get enough of the fall leaves on my afternoon drives down Rt. 29. Gorgeous.

7. I'm currently reading a book on grammar, a trashy romance novel, a book meant for 16 year-olds, a marketing study on Trader Joe's, and Tina Fey's autobiography. Could my selection of books be any more eclectic?

8. I found all my old Beanie Baby trading cards while helping my mom get rid of stuff today. All I kept thinking was, "why did I ever want to buy so much junk?"

Unintentional Team Spirit, pt. 2

Turtleneck: Lord and Taylor
Skirt: Tory Burch
Shoes: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Belt: Michael Kors

Important to Note:
-Other than shoes, everything I am wearing I borrowed from my mom. Doesn't she have the best style? I'm just lucky that we're the same size!

-Today, I was off to yet another interview. Thankfully, the weather was nice enough that I could go yet another day without covering up my legs.

-Why didn't I wear any jewelry today? I don't know how I missed that detail.

-My nails actually match my outfit!

Okay, I am feeling mega discombobulated today. Hence a blog post that consists of bullet points. Perhaps I'll be able to form actual sentences tomorrow?

Interview Style

Cardigan: Delia*s
Top: BCBG Max Azria
Skirt: BCBG Max Azria
Shoes: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Bracelets: Sergio Lub and Coach

In case you were curious, yes, I am still interviewing. At this point, I am have had 30 plus interviews. Crazy, right? I am truthfully exhausted from this entire experience, and cannot wait until it is over. A lot of the time, I just want to quit, but I know I can't. However, the other day one of my old professors gave me some good advice and said, "Treat every interview like it's the first one." It has reminded me to present my best self during every interview, no matter what.

Today I was off for an interview at an event management company in Frederick. For some reason, I am hellbent on not repeating an outfit that I have worn for an interview. Truthfully, this is one of those times when repeating an outfit would not matter since the interviewers wouldn't notice. Yet, I still am putting myself to the challenge.

My approach for this ensemble was kind of like a mullet. Okay wait - hear me out first. Party on the top with a jewel-toned blouse and a zebra print cardigan; classic on the bottom with a basic black high-waisted skirt and pointy pumps. Make sense now? I think it turned out pretty well. This outfit definitely shows me personality, but is completely interview appropriate.

BAMF

Jacket: Romeo and Juliet Couture
Shirt: Tory Burch
Pants Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Shoes: Maria Sharapova for Cole Haan
Earrings: Betsey Johnson
Belt: Gap

I've mentioned before how some of my outfits have "themes." (See Bohemian Chic, Parisienne Chic, and Catholic School Girl, for reference). Anyway, this is yet another ensemble that has a theme - BAMF. I think it's this leather jacket. Every time I wear it, I feel really cool. Lets be honest though, I'm the furthest thing from cool.

Also, this is yet another outfit that doesn't feel "me." I've always described my style to be preppy with a touch of glamour, and this is not exactly a preppy look! I guess that'd a good thing, though. Why should my style ever be defined by two distinct words? Here's to breaking the molds. Pin It

DC Chillin'

Jacket: Betsey Johnson
Sweater: Lilly Pulitzer
Scarf: BCBG Max Azria
Pants: Michel Kors
Shoes: Lucky Brand
Earrings: Nordstrom Rack
Bag: Coach

A little while ago, one of my good friends from college invited me to accompany her on a tour of the White House Gardens. Um, who would turn that down? Certainly not me, especially when I knew it was free! Regardless, I probably would have gone. I love spending the day in D.C.!

For the occasion, I decided to wear my traditional fall uniform: a knit sweater, scarf, skinny jeans, and riding boots. Not only is this ensemble super comfortable, it keeps me seriously warm while wandering around the city. Apparently, the rest of the 20-somethings in D.C. agreed - almost everyone was wearing the same thing I was in some variation. Pin It

A week in Instagram

I don't know if you have noticed, but I have been trying to take less pictures of food on Instagram. I don't know why this is so challenging for me, but I always recognize good presentation, and want to photograph it! Anyway, act impressed by my efforts. I am stepping outside of my comfortable cardboard box.

P.S - Follow me on Instagram (heytherekatrina) and Twitter!

1. Last weekend, I went to Virgin Freefest. As I explained to my parents several times, yes, the tickets are free (if you can get a hand on one)! Although I have never understood it, for the past three years, the concert have been held in my hometown, Columbia, Md. This shot is of the Ferris wheel that was on the grounds.

2. The Ferris wheel by night.

3. My dad won't turn the heat on until November 1. Hence ridiculous outfits and toe socks until then.

4. See comment three. Also, I love my Hood College "Hood"-ie! It's the perfect on a rainy day.

5. The best part about nannying? Letting the girls run around on the playground while I relax for an hour and read. Just kidding (but not really).

6. Having everything crossed of your to-do list is the best feeling.

7. Just hanging out at the White House on my tour of the gardens. Nbd.

8. My view of the Washington Monument from the White House. Seriously, I love living so close to D.C.

9. Sunday brunch with the boyfriend at an old-fashioned diner in Northern Virginia.

10. My mom made homemade caramel apples. Hello, fall.

Date Night

Jacket: Romeo and Juliet Couture
Dress: BCBG Max Azria
Shoes: BCBG Max Azria
Earrings: Betsey Johnson

I love it when I pull a piece out of my closet, and it feels like it's the first time I've ever seen it. It's like when you're browsing the overflowing sales rack and something special catches your eye. For me, oftentimes it's a pop of color that I really like; like turquoise, neon pink, or lemony yellow. Sometimes, it's an interesting texture or fabric. For instance, I can spot sequins and glitter from a mile away. However, no matter where I am shopping, I am always attracted to leather: I just have to touch! Will the leather feel stiff and cheap; or luxuriously soft?

I was hit with just this sensation while searching for the perfect outfit for date night. With the temperatures dropping drastically the last couple of weeks, I have been gravitating towards anything that will keep me warm the longest. For the first time in awhile, this black leather motorcycle jacket popped out at me. With just one touch of the soft, buttery leather, I knew I had to wear it.

I decided to pair it with this super soft knit sweater dress. Although the colors may appear drab together, I think the difference of textures helps to keep this outfit unique. For finishing touches, I added my new animal print flats, and dangly earrings. When I went to check myself out in the mirror, I was kind of shocked by this outfit - it isn't really my style. With that being said, I love it more than a lot of my outfits recently! I feel edgy and cool, which are never words I would use to describe my personal style.

Nanny Wear

Sweater: Lilly Pulitzer
T-Shirt: Victoria's Secret
Scarf: Jones New York
Pants: Juicy Couture
Shoes: Minnetonka

In the morning and evening, I am a nanny. During the middle of the day, I am doing any number of things - kickboxing, checking out books at the library, grocery shopping for my mom, interviewing, and writing; just to name a few. For me, one of my favorite things about being a nanny is that I can wear whatever I want. As a former Target employee and college tour guide, the ability to wear whatever I want is important. Typically, that means I head over in athletic wear and tennis shoes. By doing this, I am more encouraged to head straight to the gym after dropping the girls off at school. After a quick mid-day shower, I change into something more presentable for the rest of my daily activities.

This afternoon, I let the girls stay after at school and play on the playground instead of heading home immediately to kick-start homework. Personally, this is my favorite kind of afternoon. The girls play with their friends; I sit under a tree and read for an hour. Although this is rather selfish on my behalf, the girls are happy. It's a fair trade.

Although the skies have been sunny for the past couple of days, I still knew I needed to bundle up for my afternoon outside. So, I went with this nanny chic ensemble. It combines a couple of my favorite fall pieces in a one happy package - a wrap sweater, a colorful fringed scarf, and suede moccasins. If the weather was as I predicted, I would be perfectly cozy. However, if it was too warm, I could easily peel off a layer or two. For me, that's the best way to get dressed: expect the worst, and hope for the best.
