Leopard and Turquoise

Shirt: J. Crew
Skirt: L.K Bennett
Necklace: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Shoes: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Bag: Longchamp

After bringing more of my summer wardrobe down to my boyfriend's place, I really wanted to wear a colorful ensemble on Monday. Unfortunately, the weather isn't in the mood to cooperate - it' supposed to rain almost all this week!

Instead, I decided to break out a little animal print to start off the work week. Although I could have worn this skirt with teal or cranberry, I decided to stick with classic black accents. Let's just say I was super groggy this morning. As I was walking out the door though, I decided to slip on this turquoise necklace. It's a small pop of color, but it was the perfect touch to complete my look.

Cowboy Caviar

Last Friday, we had our first potluck at work. I wanted to bring something that was affordable, easy to make, and transportable. I decided to make cowboy caviar, a staple at every party my mom has ever thrown. With chips, or on its own, this is a delicious (and healthy, for once!) dish. Here's what you'll need:

Ingredients
2 cans of black beans
2 cans of corn
3 small tomatoes, seeded and chopped
1/2 cup of olive oil
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon of minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of pepper
1 teaspoon of cumin
2/3 cup chopped cilantro
2/3 cup chopped green onions

1. Wash and drain black beans and corn. Mix together with cilantro, green onion, and tomatoes. For the dressing, combine the olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic, salt, pepper, and cumin together. Pour the dressing over the vegetables, and toss to mix. Voila!

When I'm taking this dish to-go, I bring the green onion in a separate bag, and pour the dressing over the vegetables at the last minute. This way, everything stays crisp, and isn't overpowered by green onion.

When you're done, you'll have something that looks like this. Enjoy!

Hall of Fame

Cardigan: Calvin Klein
Top: Rebecca Taylor
Necklace: Betsey Johnson
Bag: Longchamp
Shoes: Coach
If I had a hall of fame for some of the most worn (and loved) pieces in my wardrobe, this silk tank would be a top contender. From my first internship, to braces, warm spring days, and interviews, this top has already withstood the test of time.

However, every time I have worn this top in the past, I've worn it with an overwhelming amount of black. While it works just fine, it's not anything different or exciting. Today, I was determined to think of a new way to wear this top, and I am beyond delighted with the result! Honestly, I can't believe how easy it was. I took a look at the color scheme of the blouse, and pulled similar colors out of my wardrobe. I ended up deciding on my insanely bright minnie pants, and a lemon cardigan. Although I did balance it out with some black accessories, I think this is a major improvement! Pin It

Old Fashioned

Dress: Diane von Furstenberg
Earrings: Neiman Marcus Last Call
Shoes: Jessica Simpson

When I first saw this dress while shopping this weekend, I stopped dead in my tracks - and not for a good reason. Immediately, I thought of Adele at the Grammy's this year. It reminded me of my grandmother's couch! Yet for some reason, I ended up pulling it off the rack and throwing it into my pile of things to try on. I was almost positive I wasn't going to like it, but I just had to try it on to be 100 percent sure.

Even after trying it on, I still wasn't sure! The cut fit my figure perfectly, but I didn't think I could pull off such a graphic print. In the end, my mom ended up convincing me to get it. Today, with my hair freshly washed, a pair of nude pumps and drop earrings, I am now loving this dress! Honestly, as long as a piece of clothing fits your body to a T - you can get away with wearing almost anything.

Spring Attire

 Shirt: Gap
Skirt: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Necklace: Charter Club
Shoes: Hunters

Weather in the spring is always crazy unpredictable: some days it's nothing but clear skies, and other days it doesn't seem like it's ever going to stop raining. Fortunately, spring thus far as been pretty moderate. Of course, there have been scattered showers, which I usually detest (hello, frizzy hair)! However, there's one good thing about rainy days - I get to break out my Hunters!

My Hunter's are one of the best practical purchases I have made.In addition to keeping my feet dry, they can be worn with just about everything. Skirts, dresses, skinny jeans, you name it! Today, I wore them with this floral-printed skirt that my mom finally passed down to me.

So as not to be an overwhelming blob of pink, I decided to wear this mint three quarter-sleeved tee on top. It's not something I would typically wear with this skirt, but I ended up loving the combination!

Office Sparkle

Shirt: Theory
Camisole: Calvin Klein
Skirt: I.N.C
Bag: Longchamp
Necklace: Lilly Pulitzer
Shoes: Lauren Ralph Lauren

Some people might say that sequins aren't office appropriate. Nay, I say! Personally, as long as you're not working on Capitol Hill, I think you should give it a go. My new office is pretty business casual, so I knew I could get away with some sequins on a Wednesday without so much as a fuss.

Because this skirt can hold the show for it's own, I decided to pair it with a crisp button-down. Truthfully, I think just about any color button-down would have work, but this blue one is one of my personal favorites. For finishing touches, I slipped on a pair of basic black leather pumps, and a simple gold chain-link necklace.

A week in Instagram

Here's what things have been looking like on Instagram as of lately (albeit a bit quieter than usual).

P.S- Follow me on Twitter and Instagram (heytherekatrina) to stay up to date with me!

1. Showing team spirit on opening day with a worn-in three-quarter sleeve.

2. In my last day at my internship, I had to register all of these iPods. I don't even know why.

3. My last day nannying, I played chutes and ladders and Uno. A perfect last day with my kiddos.

4. My boyfriend and I took a trip down to Manassas to check out McKay's used book store. I don't know how else to describe it other than this: heaven.

5. Cherry blossoms finally in bloom around the tidal basin!

6. Celebrating free cone day at Ben and Jerrys, minus the cone.

7. Someone please pinch me, I still can't believe I work here.

8. A little fun in the office on an otherwise quiet Tuesday.

White before Memorial Day

Top: Gap
Camisole: Gap
Pants: J Brand
Shoes: Kate Spade
Earrings: gift

I've wanted white jeans for the longest time. I actually had a pair back in high school, but gave them away when I grew out of them. Fast forward to several years later, and there was nothing more that I wanted in my wardrobe. I was on constant lookout, to no avail, of course.

After I got my job offer, I kind of went on a shopping free. Which is how while browsing the aisles of Saks off Fifth that I found these. They were the only pair on the sale rack, and it just happened that they were my size. It felt too good to be true - but it wasn't! I tried them on, and they fit like a glove. Plus, they were on mega sale - originally marked at about $170, but had been marked down at least four times to $20.Oh, and because clearance was an additional 50% percent off, they ended up being only $10. Definitely one of those deals that is too good not to share.

That same day, I was shopping at Gap and found this sheer flower print top. It's not something that I would normally pick out, but that day it just popped out at me. Together, I think these pieces worked really well together. Although it's not yet Memorial Day, what do I care? If it feels like summer, I'm wearing what's appropriate for the season!

Cloud and Crown Me Already

For my first week at work, a fresh manicure was an absolute must. I know it might not happen every week like I would like it to, but at the very least, I wanted to have polished fingertips for this particular week.

Time after time, whenever I don't know what polish to choose, I choose Revlon's cloud. No matter the season, this polish always jumps out at me. It's smooth, opaque in just a couple of coats, and absolutely dreamy to look at. Plus, I love that I've had this polish for years and it still hasn't gotten clumpy. Major props to Revlon to figuring out a formula that really works! I did my ring finger with OPI's crown me already. Another personal favorite, I love how the chunky silver glitter looks with my lilac polish.

Leaving comfort zones

Top: Single
Camisole: Calvin Klein
Skirt: Kate Spade
Bag: Longchamp
Shoes: Coach

This week, I started working for a huge media company in Northern Virginia. There are numerous pluses to this, but one of the things I was most excited about was getting dressed up again. Typically, in the previous positions I've held, as a nanny, intern, or even at Target, everyone dressed like a slob. Not here! Walking down the hallways, it looks like everyone could have stepped off the runway!

Because of this, I've decide to try and step up my game. As it is, I've never had a problem dressing up and trying new things. Still, I really want to push myself to step outside of my comfort zone. Now, while today is not a huge leap from my traditional style, I think it's a step in the right direction.

In the past, I've worn this flow-y top with dark skinny jeans. This time, I let the colors of this blouse pop by tucking it into a knee-length royal purple skirt. I think it works much better like this; in addition to being professional, it looks more polished. Finally, I finished off with plain black patent leather pumps. Although I had hoped to choose something different for my footwear, nothing else worked! There's always next time, I suppose.

Neon and Peplum

Shirt: Gap
Necklace: Erickson Beamon for Target
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Skirt: I.N.C

Remember that marketing ploy I fell for at Gap last week? This sweet three-quarter sleeve tee is from that same promotion (they had me bad). But seriously, how was I supposed to resist neon pink? It's one of my favorite colors!

This time though, I put a more professional spin on my basic tee. However, instead of going with plain-Jane gray or black, I decided to pair it with my cobalt peplum skirt (last seen here). As I looked at myself in my full-length mirror this morning, I thought it might be a little 80s for my personal taste. At that point though, it was way too late to change my mind, so out the door I went. Hopefully choosing classic nude pumps and a more modern necklace ensured that I didn't look like I walked out of a bad music video! Pin It

First Day!

Cardigan: Calvin Klein
Dress: Nanette Lepore
Necklace: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Shoes: Coach

More than a year after my first interview, two nannying gigs, a temporary job, and an internship, I've finally received a full-time job offer - and started today! After applying to nearly 250 jobs, and going on almost 50 interviews, I never thought I would see the day. However, I am delighted to finally start this new chapter in my life.

For my first day, I had no idea what to wear! Thankfully, last week my parents brought down a good portion of my work wardrobe, so now I have more options to work with. Even though I knew we wouldn't be doing much more than filling out paperwork (read: no actual work), I wanted to get dressed up! Other than interviews, I haven't really had a reason to get all prettied up in months!

Eventually, I decided on this colorful floral-print Nannette Lepore dress (last seen here). The only thing I changed from last time was the color my cardigan - crazy, right? However, I think it was the perfect thing to wear. I felt comfortable, pretty, and professional.

Pretty in Pink

Shirt: INC
Pants: Kenneth Cole
Shoes: Steve Madden
Earrings: Forever 21

This weekend, my boyfriend and I ventured into DC to check out the cherry blossom festival, do a little shopping, and eat some tasty food. Lucky for us, the sun decided to finally make its appearance, which truthfully made the whole day so much better!

Because we were seeing the cherry blossoms, I decided an entirely pink outfit was in order. I was inspired by this floral top, which I pilfered from my mom sometime last year. I love that it's sleeveless (hooray for bare arms!) and really packs a punch of color. I paired them with my new pale pink jeans, which I have been dying to wear! In addition to being the perfection addition to my spring wardrobe, they are beyond comfortable. I finished off my look with my worn-in gladiators (so worn-in that they broke during our trip...), and orange chandelier earrings.

Spring, I'm so happy you arrived. Please don't plan on leaving anytime soon!

I thought winter was over...?

Sweater: Old Navy
Pants: J. Crew
Shoes: Lucky Brand
Scarf: Target
Earrings: Charter Club

According to the calendar, the first official day of spring was March 20. However, based on the weather in NoVA recently, you would never be the wiser! As soon as I heard on the morning news that it was only about 25 degrees out, I felt seriously bummed out. This weekend, I brought a bunch of my summer skirts down to my boyfriends, and have been dying to wear them! Unfortunately, the weather gods have just not been cooperating with my pleas.

So, it was back to the drawing board. Honestly, I am truly bored with my winter staples, but you have to make do with what you have. Though, primary colored pieces keep my outfit from being anything other than boring. Pin It

Minty Fresh

Shirt: Gap
Pants: Lilly Pulitzer
Bag: Kate Spade
Shoes: Steve Madden
Necklace: Neiman Marcus Last Call

This year, Pantone selected emerald as its color of the year. While emerald is a beautiful color, personally, I believe mint would have been a better choice. Recently, I feel like I've been seeing it everywhere. It's probably just because it's spring, but I would to see it used year round!

Anyway, I was shopping at Gap last week, and saw these three-quarter sleeved tees right by the check-out for 70 percent. It was totally a marketing ploy to catch your eye at the last moment, and it worked on me (I hate it when this happens)! I grabbed one in mint and neon pink.

I decided to pair my new springy tee with cuffed skinny jeans and a simple double-stranded gold necklace. Also, I'm so happy I remembered to grab my newish Kate Spade bag from my parents house! The Kelly green and royal blue stripes really pop with my mint top.
