Dress Shorts? Or whatever they are.

Shirt: Juicy Couture
Camisole: Calvin Klein
Necklace: BCBG Max Azria
Culottes: Nanette Lepore
Bag: Longchamp
Shoes: Coach

About a month ago, my mom and I popped into Off Saks to pick up some gifts for a wedding shower she was hosting. While we were there, I couldn't resist browsing the clearance racks for a great deal. It was then that I found what I thought was a skirt. I brought it into the dressing room with me, and was kind of surprised when I discovered a piece a fabric between my legs. So then, I was kind of confused. I wasn't sure what to make of what these were. Dress shorts? I didn't know. But I looked in the mirror, and kind of liked them. Obviously, in the end I decided to buy them.

As with almost all of my new purchases, they then hung in the closet until I got the most random inspiration. Last night, I was browsing a new blog and saw a photo of the author wearing my shorts (or whatever they are). Of course, I had to wear it nearly the exact same way since I don't have a creative bone in my body. Now that I'm wearing them out in public, I love them even more! It was nearly 90 degrees today, and my loose outfit was a perfect match to the humid weather. Pin It

Lilly and Chambray

Shirt: Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Skirt: Lilly Pulitzer
Bag: Longchamp
Shoes: Maria Sharapova for Cole Haan
Earrings: Charter Club

After an extra long weekend away, it was much more difficult than normal to jump out of bed and get the day started. When I woke up this morning, I couldn't resist hitting snooze at least three times, and snuggling in bed just a little bit longer. Thankfully, last night I took sometime to think about what I was going to wear today, which at least eliminated one of my biggest time wasters in the morning.

Interestingly enough, I was inspired to wear this seersucker skirt when I saw it on Tumblr this weekend. It reminded me that I hadn't worn since sometime last year, and it's definitely Lilly season. This time, I paired it with my favorite chambray button up, and simple pearl studs. Now that I've remembered that I have it, I can't wait to get some more wear out of this skirt!

The Season of Lilly

Jacket: DKNY
Dress: Lilly Pulitzer
Camisole (worn underneath): Gap
Necklace: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Bag: Longchamp
Shoes: Coach

To me, nothing says summertime fashion better than a colorful dress from Lilly Pulitzer. Over the past four or five years, I have accumulated several pieces, all of which are pushed to the back of my closet until the first heat wave kicks in sometime during the middle of May.

While this is not the most colorful Lilly dress I own, it's still one of my favorites. To keep things office appropriate, I layered a white camisole underneath, and my denim jacket on top. Hopefully the next time I'm wearing this, I'll be spending some time outside instead of in the office!

American Girl

Shirt: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Skirt: c/o eshakti
Necklace: Charter Club
Shoes: Maria Sharapova for Cole Haan

Today's outfit feels quintessential all American. Maybe it's the chambray paired with the red and white heart print skirt, or the creamy colored belt around the middle (which really reminds me of an apron). Either way, I love how this look came out.

A week in Instagram

Here's what things have been looking like on Instagram as of lately (albeit a bit quieter than usual, again).

P.S- Follow me on Twitter and Instagram (heytherekatrina) to stay up to date with me!

1. My new tote for my gym clothes. I love the Container Store!

2. Gordon Biersch with my boyfriend after some Saturday afternoon shopping.

3. Oh, and the shoe department of Lord and Taylor at 8 p.m. Sorry, I worked retail for four and a half years, and don't know when this would ever be excusable.

4. The best way to spend a Sunday at the spring is at a Nationals game with my boyfriend.

5. Great seats, great price. Can't beat it! #natitude

6. When you don't know what to do for dinner, breakfast is always an option.

7. Back at our alma mater for graduation 2013! Where has the last year gone?

8. And finally, the best find in weeks. Thanks to Facebook and an acquaintance, I now own a gamecube again (my mom gave away the one my brothers and I shared in the early 2000s). #winning

Graduation Wear

Dress: Lilly Pulitzer
Necklace: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Shoes: Coach

This weekend, my boyfriend and I took a trip up to our alma mater to see one of my best friends graduate. It's always weird being back on campus, but this particular trip marked the one-year anniversary of my own graduation. A lot has changed in the last year, but all in all, I am still proud of my school.

I have one (personal) rule about graduation wear: I always wear Lilly. Rain or shine, high school or college graduation, you're going to find me in one of my favorite Lilly dresses (see here, here, and here). Oddly enough, this is the same dress I wore to graduation last year. However, all of the photos of my friends were taken in our caps and gowns, so I decided to wear it again for this year's ceremony.

I paired my lace dress with a couple of aqua accessories, and a bold crimson lip. Next time, I think I might add a skinny belt around the middle, but otherwise, I love how this look turned out!

Friday's Finest

Dress: Kate Spade
Belt: Target
Shoes: Coach
Earrings: Neiman Marcus Last Call

With the funky weather this week, I just didn't feel like getting dolled up. I've been sticking with comfortable classics: skinny jeans, loose blouses, and broken-in flats. Today though, I wanted to look nice. Maybe it was the sunshine streaming through the blinds in the morning, or the fact that it's Friday, but today felt like a fresh start.

This new dress from Kate Spade was just the thing I needed to cure my fashion rut. With the addition of a skinny glittered belt, aquamarine drop earrings, and patent leather pumps, I was ready to take on the day.

New Kicks

Shirt: thrifted
Pants: J. Crew
Bag: Kate Spade
Bracelet: my mom's
Shoes: L. K. Bennett

I've been waiting to wear these teal pumps for weeks, about the same amount of time it took me to take the plunge and make the purchase. When I first saw these at Nordstrom rack, I swooned. I don't think I had ever seen a shoe that was more beautiful. However, I couldn't justify the purchase. They were on clearance, but still pretty expensive. I thought to myself, "If I still want these shoes a couple of weeks from now, and they are still there, it was meant to be."

Three weeks later, I went back. To my astonishment, the shoes were still there. I decided to buy them as a treat to myself for finally getting a full time job. And then they sat in my closet, unworn and unloved. They're made of some kind of satiny material, so I couldn't wear them with all the rainy weather we've been experiencing recently.

Today, I decided I wasn't going to let them go unworn any longer. I've said time and time again, I do not let beautiful clothing sit in my closet unloved. Paired with a similar colored top, and sleek minnie pants, these shoes felt just right.

A day at the ballpark

Coat: Betsey Johnson
Pants: Eileen Fisher
Shirt: Dicks
Bag: Kate Spade
Glasses: Kate Spade
Shoes: Target
Necklace: Vintage

Ever since I moved in with my boyfriend in February, I feel like my weekends are spent on the road. From Columbia, Frederick, DC, and northern Virginia, I probably spend the most time on the beltway, sitting in traffic (regardless of the time of day). However, in all my travels, I never get to spend much time with my boyfriend. With the weekends being the only realistic time to see college friends and family, my plans are developed well in advance, and before I know it, the next month is completely booked. This weekend, after a quick visit to see my parents in Columbia, I decided to cut my trip short so my boyfriend and I could catch a Nationals game.

Thankfully, we were blessed with a beautiful day. It was breezy, to say the least, but at least the sun was out.   In addition, the Nationals lost, we both got serious sunburn (typical #whitepeopleproblems) and we almost got lost leaving the city. It was a typical outing with my boyfriend, but it left us with plenty of time to catch up.  I can't wait for out next free weekend together!

Oh, and here's a bonus shot of what my hair looked like all day.

Happy Mother's Day!

In honor of mother's day, here's a nice civilized photo of me and my mom.

And here's what it's really like when I see my mom. No, seriously.

To the woman who brought me into this world, took me to the hospital every time I cracked my head open (3 times between ages 4-6), packed all of my lunches until I moved out, introduced me to Bruce Springsteen, gave me first taco at age 3, showed me how to live a champagne lifestyle on a beer budget, and put my needs before her own on a daily basis, this is for you. I love you, mom. Happy mother's day!

Tangerine Sherbert

Shirt: Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Dress: Theory
Shoes: Coach
Necklace: Erickson Beamon for Target
Earrings: Charter Club

The other week, I was talking about some of the pieces in my wardrobe that would be top contenders for my hall of fame. Although last time I was referring to my silk blouse, my chambray button up really is the only thing that needs to be in there. I wear it all the time. Seriously.(I could go on!)

However, in all my time wearing this shirt, I've never once thought of wearing it unbuttoned. Crazy, right? I guess when wearing a button up, I've always been inclined to button the shirt up, just like the name implies. That all changed when I was reading this blog post from The College Prepster. In one photo, she is wearing an unbuttoned chambray shirt, and when I saw that, I had an "ah-ha" moment! I'm telling you, this was really moving for me.

Anyway, so then I remembered this tangerine strapless dress I've had hanging in my closet for almost a year now. It's something I bought at the end of the season clearance awhile ago, and just never thought of a good way to wear. Shortly after my revelation, I realized just how perfect these two pieces would be together. For once, I was right! As I looked back at myself in the mirror, I was so pleased with how my look turned out. It's crazy how just making a slight change makes such a difference, huh?

A week in Instagram

Here's what life has been like in the last two-ish weeks.

P.S- Follow me on Twitter and Instagram (heytherekatrina) to stay up to date with me!

1. After about an hour of walking straight uphill, my friends and I made it to the Harpers Ferry scenic overlook.

2. Of course, we had to reward ourselves with large margaritas afterwards.

3. Always looking up, not down.

4. Taking an afternoon stroll in downtown Frederick.

5. This week, I was faced with a very difficult decision. L.K. Bennett, Vera Wang, or Cole Haan? (Guess which one I ended up getting?)

6. Checking out the new Alamo Drafthouse in NoVa before opening day ($2 movie tickets, woohoo)!

7. Taking advantage of the perfect spring weather and dining al fresco.

8. The perfect hibiscus bloom.

Purple Love

Shirt: Yumi Kim
Skirt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Coach
Bracelets: Coach and Sergio Lub
Earrings: gift

When I bought this violet colored skirt last fall, I was so excited to wear it. In a sea of black, navy blue, and charcoal gray, this skirt stands out (in a good way), and I knew it would be the perfect piece to add to my small professional wardrobe. However, little did I know that it would be months before I had a chance to pull it out of my closet for the first time (see here).

Wearing it today for the second time, I love it even more! This time, I paired it with a three quarter sleeved aqua blouse. Although the purple in the top is not the exact same as the skirt, I think it's a close enough match. Regardless, all this color makes me so happy! I'm really quite proud of myself for choosing this colorful top instead of something black or white. It may not be groundbreaking for some people, but for me, it's a step in the right direction!

Seeing Spots

Shirt: I.N.C
Skirt: I.N.C
Shoes: Coach
Earrings: Betsey Johnson

Just the other day, I was talking about how I miss being able to borrow from my mom's closet. Every once in awhile though, I finally steal something that I've been eyeing up for months, or even years. This spotted top is one of those pieces. In the last year, I don't think my mom even wore it once! It's the perfect piece for my new professional wardrobe.

The last couple of times I wore this, I paired it with a simple black skirt. However, I think this cobalt skirt is a much better match! The color is the exact same as the blue in the top, and this skirt has much more personality than my black one. I finished off my look with my most comfortable black pumps, and drop earrings.
