Pink and Linen

Shirt: I.N.C
Pants: DKNY
Bag: Kate Spade
Shoes: BCBG Max Azria
Bracelets: Charming Charlie's

I can't get over just how gorgeous this week has been. The fact that it's the end of July and I can go outside in pants (granted, they're made of linen,) and a tunic and not have everything stick to my skin, is short of a miracle. I'm not quite sure where this dramatic change in the weather came from, but I'm certainly not going to complain!

Allure and Merino Cool

For awhile, I was on a natural nail polish kick. By that, I mean that I only wore nail polishes that I felt looked natural on my fingernails. Then I got tired of that, and went back to wearing all my wacky colored nail polishes, like one of my favorites aruba blue.

Anyway, I think may be on a brief natural nails kick again (emphasis on the brief). For whatever reason this week, Essie's "Allure" was just calling my name. It's definitely kind of tricky to apply as it's very sheer, but it had such a pretty effect if done correctly. Following my typical creature of habit tendencies, I couldn't resist a contrasting ring finger nail polish. I used Essie's "Merino Cool," which looks way more gray than it actually is. While I don't think this pairing worked like I thought it would, it's always good to try something new!

There can never be too much pink

Dress: Ted Baker
Shoes: Steve Madden
Necklace: Kate Spade
Bag: Kate Spade

Hello blog readers! I bet you're wondering if my eyes are even open in these photos. No? No one cares? Well, for the two people who can't tell, they are in fact open. In other news, this week is going a hundred times better than last week. First of all, it's flying by, which I love. And, today it's finally nice outside! It's 86 degrees, super sunny (hence why I can barely keep my eyes open), and not humid. That means you can finally go outside without your clothes immediately sticking to you. I kind of love it.

So now that I'm in a much better mood, I wanted to dress like it. This new Ted Baker striped dress that I got while on a major shopping spree back in June was the perfect fit for my improved attitude. Now usually I would say horizontal stripes on the lower half of your body is a no-no, but when I saw the neon pink color at the bottom, I couldn't resist trying it on for size. Surprisingly, I didn't hate the stripes! I paired my new dress with a tri-colored necklace I stole from my mom, minimalist nude sandals, and structured pink leather bag. Just like my title states, you can never wear too much pink!

Coral and Aqua

Dress: Juicy Couture
Belt: Michael Kors
Shoes: Coach
Wristlet: Coach

Typically, when I go out Friday nights after work I don't bother changing. I have a huge wardrobe filled with plenty of pieces perfect for going out on weekends, but I am just too tired and lazy to change. And, I'm too focused on just getting out, and having fun!

This Friday, was different. For whatever reason, this week felt a lot more difficult than normal, so by Friday afternoon, I was practically running out of the office. As soon as I got home, I changed into something a little more comfortable. I started with this silk jumper, and added pops of aqua to contrast against the coral. At the last minute, I decided I to put on a thick leopard print belt to pull my whole look together. With that, I was out the door, and ready to forget the week!

Creature of Habit

Dress: Nanette Lepore
Belt: Charlotte Russe
Earrings: gift
Shoes: Coach

Just like yesterday, in order to get ready in a timely fashion this morning, I needed to stick with my uniform: a sleek dress paired with minimal accessories. This dress was formerly my mom's, and I have been eyeing it for years. However, several weeks ago while raiding her closet, she finally relented and decided it was too young for her - meaning it's perfect for me! Like I mentioned earlier, minimal accessories are essential for getting out the door quickly, so I stuck with a skinny purple belt, and dangling silver earrings. I'm seriously hoping that my outfit creativity is restored by next week!

Black, White, & Red All Over

Dress: Kate Spade
Shoes: Vera Wang
Earrings: gift

Is it just me, or is this week going terribly slow? Typically, I find that weeks fly by, as I'm busy all day at work, only to come home, make dinner, go to the gym - the whole "adult" routine. This week though, it's totally dragging! C'mon Friday, I need you now.

You know what makes a slow week better? Having an easy, go-to outfit that takes no time to put together in the morning.Today, I started with this black and white printed dress from Kate Spade. I love the three-quarter sleeves, and the cute cut-out in the back (that I obviously forgot to get a photo of). To finish off my look, I slipped on a pair of simple flats, and swiped on a bright red lipstick. Here's hoping that this simple combination will help me get through the rest of this week.

3. Sporting blue and red for the fourth.

4. Fireworks at Lake Fairfax with 15,000 other people.

5. Mount Vernon!

6. When life hands you lemons, make homemade lemonade.

Thanks to Timehop, one of my new favorite apps, I start every morning taking a trip down memory lane to see what I was doing more than a year ago on the exact same day. Through social media sites like FourSquare, Facebook, and Twitter, Timehop puts together a mini time capsule based on your activity on those websites from that day. Each morning, as I scroll through my feed, I can still remember what I was doing out, or why I was laughing in a photo. And I swear, this post is not sponsored. I really just love this app!

Five years ago today, I was in France celebrating Bastille Day. Even today, I can still remember every minute of that day so clearly. I remember waking up at 4 a.m. to avoid the traffic in Paris, making it to Tours in record time, going shopping during the big summer sales, and ending the day with gelato and watching the fireworks. Today, as I scrolled through the photos, I couldn't help but smile as I reminisced about the great memories that I had on my trip. One day, I would love to go back with my own family. Unfortunately, as funds are limited (and I don't have much vacation time!) I think that day is pretty far away. So for now, my old photos are going to have to do! Vive la France! Pin It

Inspired by: Cupcakes and Cashmere

Shirt: Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Pants: J. Brand
Shoes: Steve Madden
Belt: Gap
I don't even know why I said this post was "inspired by" Cupcakes and Cashmere, one of my favorite fashion bloggers. Seriously, I really just copied exactly what she wore in this post here. And I know that I could have just taken inspiration from her outfit and done something different, but when I realized that I had almost the exact same pieces in my own closet, I decided I wanted to replicate the look.

Just like she mentioned, it's a super simple and casual look. Personally though, I think that's the best kind of look during the summer time. In my area, it's so hot and humid, and what may seem like a good outfit while getting dressed in the morning oftentimes ends up sticking to your thighs, and just plain uncomfortable after spending all day in the sun. An outfit like this one though, is perfect for any day, no matter the occasion.

From work to happy hour

Cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer
Top: Theory
Skirt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Coach

Yesterday, I was going straight from work to a company happy hour. Even though my office is pretty business casual, I wanted to wear something that would easily transition from the workplace to getting drinks without having to change.

This new top that I got while shopping with my mom a couple of weeks ago is the perfect piece for a day like this. Although its sleeveless nature is a bit much for office wear, it's perfect for getting drinks or a hot summer day.

To keep the rest of my outfit office appropriate, I paired my top with a coral cardigan, and one of my favorite a-line skirts in a punchy hue. I have to say, I love how this look turned out! This top reminds me of a finger-painting, and because it has so many colors in it, I know I'll be able to wear it several different ways.

Thoughts on Pink and Red

Shirt: J. Crew Factory
Pants: Lilly Pulitzer
Bracelet: Kate Spade
Shoes: Steve Madden
Earrings: Charter Club
Camisole: Gap

Around Valentine's Day, I get the urge to start wearing pink and red all the time (see here, here, and here). However, with the addition of this new gingham button-up to my wardrobe, I know I'll be wearing even more pink and red outfit combinations throughout the year. This combination is just so bright and cheery, it always puts me in the best mood. Plus, it's such a girly look! Personally, I think that too many people are stuck on wearing a bright color and then pairing it with something more neutral (like black or brown), and it can get so boring. For me, bring on the color!

When life hands you lemons... make lemonade. Or at least, I do. Typically though, I don't drink anything other than water. Well, and a glass of juice in the morning, but that's really it. I don't like soda very much, or other sugared soft drinks. Sometimes though, on the hottest days of summer, I have a hankering for fresh, zesty, lemonade.

This weekend was unbelievably hot. On Saturday, I took a little trip down to Mount Vernon with one of my friends from college, and had the best time. However, after our excursion, we were both so thirsty! When we headed out to lunch afterwards, we both had two large glasses of lemonade. So, on Sunday while grocery shopping, I got the great idea that I was going to make a big pitcher. It was super simple, and tasted so much better than the Minute Maid I used to drink with my dad as a kid. Following this recipe, here's how I made it:

You'll need:
1 1/2 cups of sugar
3 cups of cold water
1 1/2 cups of fresh lemon juice (this was about 10 lemons for me)
the zest of one lemon

1. In a medium size saucepan over high heat, bring the sugar and 2 cups of water to a boil, stirring the sugar until it has dissolved. Boil, uncovered, for five minutes.

2. While it boils, juice your lemons (this is a workout)! Pour the juice of your lemons and the zest of one lemon into your simple syrup, and remove the pan from the heat. Cover, and let it stand for about a half hour.

3. Strain your mixture to get ride of any seeds into a pitcher, and stir in the remaining cup of water. To serve, add ice cubes and lemon slices.

After all your hard work, you'll have this:

For the love of 'Merica

Dress (worn as top): Bailey 44
Skirt: c/o eshakti
Necklace: Claire*s
Shoes: Coach

Red, white, and blue is truly one of my favorite color combinations. So even though the fourth is officially over, I can't resist making the holiday last as long as possible by continuing to wear patriotic ensembles. Today, I decided to wear this apron like skirt with one of my most comfortable dresses. Paired with pearls, red lips, and broken-in sequined flats, I was ready to go back to work!

Trombone, Crown Me Already, and Aruba Blue

The fourth of July may be over, but I couldn't resist painting my nails this week in a patriotic color scheme. However, seeing as I can't do any fancy designs, the best I can do to be different in paint my nails in different colors. For this week's manicure, I used Essie's "Trombone" and "Aruba Blue", and OPI's "Crown Me Already." I love how it turned out! Pin It

All American Girl

Dress: Miss Sixty
Necklace: Nordstorm
Sandals: Kate Spade

First of all, I would like to start this post apologizing in advance for my pasty pale skin! I already knew I was majorly lacking in the melanin department, but there's nothing like taking some pictures in the sun during the middle of the day to remind me just how white I really am. So again, I'm sorry.

This fourth of July was perfect. For the first time in my working life, I actually got the day off, without having to ask for it, AND I got paid for it! Little amenities like these mean so much to me. I know it doesn't mean a lot to other people, but you don't have these kind of luxuries working in retail. Anyway, today was just wonderful. I spent most of my morning just hanging out at home, doing some chores, and catching up on Lost with my boyfriend. Then, we headed to the next town over to enjoy a nice dinner, eat ice cream, and see the fireworks by the lake. For the occasion, I chose this summery chambray dress, simple gold sandals, and a bold red lipstick. In my mind, a truly all American ensemble.
