Falling for Berry

Dress: Vertical Designs by Lord and Taylor
Scarf: Target
Bracelet: Kate Spade
Shoes: Lucky Brand

My fall wardrobe essentials: cashmere and riding boots. It's a warm and cozy combination that's perfect for evening strolls in town, apple picking, catching up with good friends over hot cider, or in my case, heading into the office. I wish it wasn't the case, but it's true. There's been some changes in my team's structure, and I'm now responsible for the largest market running on our website. It's an overwhelming responsibility, to say the least, but I'm always up for a challenge.

Anyway, this berry dress was just the thing I needed to brighten my mood this week (and it's only Monday)! I paired it with a soft white scarf, my trusty leather riding boots, and a chunky magenta and gold bracelet.

Shades of Pink Ombre Mani

Pinkie: Bare to be Different, Sephora by O.P.I
Ring: Fiji, Essie
Middle: Mod About You, O.P.I
Index: Van D'Go, Essie
Thumb: Shocking Pink, China Glaze

I love the look of ombre manicures. It's an easy way to do something a little different from the norm, but it requires that you have a lot of nail polish. While I would love to do this look more often, I only have a large enough variety of shades in red, pink and blue to achieve this style. Oh, and glitter, but I don't think it would quite have the same effect.

What you think of ombre manicures? Have you ever tried it? Let me know in the comments!

Does anyone remember the days before Pinterest? Try to imagine things one, two, or even three years ago. Pre-historic times, right? How did we find new recipes? Learn about the newest trends? Remember that fabulous outfit we wanted to recreate? Actually, I remember. I read cookbooks passed down from my mom, saved photos I liked from my favorite blogs in separate files on my computer, and clipped out magazines until there was nothing left. Ah, the good old days.

But now, Pinterest is just a click away. At our disposable during lunch at work, while riding the subway, or waiting at the doctor's office. It can definitely become a time trap if you're not careful, but it's an excellent source of inspiration if you follow the right people, and know what you're looking for.

Anyway, somehow I stumbled upon this pin, and was inspired to put together the above look. I would have never thought of pairing these pieces together on my own, but I just love how the whole outfit comes together. So cozy and comfortable, but still pulled together to wear in the office. Thanks, Pinterest! Pin It

A week (or so) in Instagram

With summer coming to an end, I haven't been making as many outings as usual. But fear not - that should be changing in coming weeks, and I'll be back to posting photos of my journeys through Instagram.

P.S - Follow me on Instagram and Twitter to stay up to date with me.

1. The good life vox box! Thanks, Influenster.

2. Taking one last dip in Atlantic City over Labor Day weekend. (I told you, I'm behind).

3. Checking out a Mellow Mushroom, the newest pizza joint in my area.

4. Taking advantage of free tickets to King's Dominion for my fiance's employee appreciation day.

5. My last Rita's for the season, and my favorite flavor to date - raspberry lemonade.

6. Brunching at the Silver Diner after a long trip to the DMV for my Virginia license.

7. Looking up at the Maryland Wine Festival.

8. Catching up with friends from college = the best way to spend the weekend.

Planks A Lot and Set the Stage

Wow, I haven't done my nails in forever. Between the move and general laziness, I completely stopped. But now that fall is upon us and I'm spending more times indoors, I know I'll be doing my nails a lot more frequently.

This weekend, I decided to use Planks A Lot from O.P.I as my base color. It's not something that I would have normally picked out around this time of the year, but I can't resist a pretty periwinkle polish (and look at that alliteration)! I finished off my ring fingers with a little extra gold glitter with Sally Hansen's Set the Stage, which looks great no matter the season.

Minnie's and Chambray

Shirt: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Pants: J. Crew
Necklace: Lord and Taylor
Shoes: Lucky Brand
Bag: Coach

Just glancing at this outfit, it looks like I'm wearing nearly the exact same thing as I wore on Tuesday. Okay, I'll admit, I basically am. J.Crew minnie pants, check. Button down shirt (this time in soft chambray), check. Well loved leather Coach handbag, check. The big differences this time? Brown leather boots, a multi-colored glass necklace, and a big vintage cocktail ring from my Grandma's personal collection.

This outfit may be pretty basic, but it's something that always makes me feel pretty, polished, and pulled together in no time flat. Plus, it makes me feel like fall is really on it's way. The only thing I'm missing is a colorful scarf, an essential in the fall on crisp, cool mornings. I see an repeat outfit in the near future!

Still Works!

Shirt: Theory
Camisole: Calvin Klein
Pants: J. Crew
Earrings: Charter Club
Bracelets: Forever 21 and vintage
Shoes: Vera Wang
Bag: Coach

If you've been reading my blog for awhile now (or even a week), it's pretty plain to see that red and blue is my favorite color combination. Whether it's navy, dark, or baby blue or cherry, ox blood, or scarlet, I just can't get enough (please see here, here, here, here, here, and here). You have to admit, the pairing still works: every single time.

Today, is clearly no exception. Initially, I was inspired by this pin posted by someone I follow. Upon closer inspection, I realized I didn't quite have the pieces the outfit was put together with, but thought I could do a little interpretation. I mean, I haven't had worn my minnie pants in awhile anyway, so any excuse I have to wear them, I'll take. Paired with my favorite button-up of all time, pearls, and a neutral handbag and flats, I was ready to tackle Monday morning!

Peanut Butter Cookies

When it comes to cooking, I find almost every recipe that I make through Pinterest. Thanks to millions of pinners and bloggers, I can always find something new that I'm willing to try. It's so different from how I grew up. As a kid, I remember my mom pouring through cookbooks almost every night, looking for a new item to add to our dinner rotation, or to make a special treat.

Sometimes though, I'm looking for a really simple recipe. Like today, I wanted to whip up peanut butter cookies. I was pretty sure I had everything on hand, but I wasn't positive. So, I turned to one of my favorite food websites: Food 52. Unlike Pinterest, people actually make things that they find on Food 52. Then, they come back and comment about how their version turned out. It's wonderful.

Anyway, my cookies turned out perfectly. And let me be honest, I can probably count on one hand the number of times that has happened. The bottoms were just lightly browned, and the middles are soft and chewy. Read on for the super simple recipe:

-1 stick unsalted butter (softened)
-1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter
-1/2 cup sugar
-1/2 cup brown sugar
-1 large egg
-1/2 tsp vanilla extract
-1/2 tsp salt
-1/2 tsp baking soda
-1 cup flour

1. Pre-heat the oven to 350. Using a stand mixer, cream the butter and peanut butter. Once creamed, add both sugars until the mixture is consistent, about two minutes.

2. Beat in the egg and vanilla, making sure to scrape the sides of the bowl. Add salt, baking soda, and flour. Beat until combined.

3. Arrange heaping tablespoons (for big cookies!) onto baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Use the prongs of a fork to crosshatch the tops.

4. Bake cookies for about 10 minutes, until light golden brown, and just firm around the edges. Let cool, and transfer to baking racks to cool.

Makes 24 big cookies - enjoy!

White after Labor Day

Shirt: Ralph Lauren
Pants: J Brand
Bracelet: Forever 21
Shoes: Cole Haan
Bag: Coach

Normally when I buy something new, I want to wear it immediately. After purchasing, the tags are cut off, and I'm pairing it with another well loved piece from my closet. Recently though, my new clothes have been left hanging for weeks, or even months, in my closet. I'm not quite sure what has changed, but I do kind of enjoying pulling out something fresh and new after going months without really shopping.

Like this crisp gingham button up from Ralph Lauren. I bought it while on a major shopping trip with my mom in the middle of June. Now, nearly three months later, I am finally wearing it for the first time. Of course, when I bought it I knew it would pair perfectly with my white jeans. Yet, now that I'm finally wearing this shirt, it's "technically" too late to be wearing white, as it's after Labor Day. Whatever. Who follows the rules of fashion, anyway?

Hot Pink and Aquamarine

Dress: Rebecca Taylor
Jacket: DKNY
Earrings: Neiman Marcus Last Call
Bag: Coach
Shoes: Coach

Looking at these photos, I think magenta and aqua may be my new favorite color combination (surpassing coral and aqua). But you know what I love even more? A great bargain. This ruffled silk dress is probably one of the best steals I have got in awhile. The original retail value was marked at $295, which is completely out of my budget. By the time I found it on the clearance rack, it had been marked down to $99, which was still too high for me. However, the clearance rack was an additional 50 percent off, which brought the price to $49.50. With the addition of my $40 voucher for Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th from Living Social, the final price came to about $9.50 with some tax. Man, there is nothing like the thrill of a good deal!

I wore this sweet look for one of my first wedding related tasks - finding a venue! My fiance and I headed up to Frederick to check out a historic mansion that I've always thought would be perfect for our wedding, and catch up with a good friend from college who lives downtown. It was a beautiful day, and I was so happy to be finally wearing this dress. I bought it about four months ago, and thought it was just the right thing to wear while beginning the daunting task planning our perfect wedding.

Thoughts on fall

Shirt: Victoria's Secret
Scarf: Delia*s Warehouse Sale
Pants: Mavi
Bag: Coach
Shoes: Vera Wang
Belt: Gap
Earrings: gift

Fall is coming upon us. The mornings are getting cooler, the sun is setting earlier, and people are beginning to work layers into their outfits to stretch their summer wardrobe pieces. Now, I have to admit, fall is not my favorite season. I love the crisp weather, but that's about it. I don't like college or professional football, I don't care about pumpkin flavored Starbucks drinks, and I could go without Halloween. But fall fashion? That's one thing I'm a-okay with.

Without a doubt, my favorite pieces to incorporate in my fall wardrobe are scarves and skinny pants. So, that's where I started with today's look. I've had this infinity scarf for years, and every fall I'm drawn back to it again and again. It's versatile, light weight, and has a cute floral pattern that I love. I kept the rest of my outfit neutral, and think everything came together quite well.

Cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer
Dress: Lilly Pulitzer
Belt: Target
Earrings: Forever 21
Shoes: Coach
Bag: Coach

Sometimes I match, and some days I don't. And then there are days when I'm matchy-matchy. Some people might find this amount of coral and aqua to be overwhelming, but I love it. Plus, there really isn't much longer that I can wear super bright Lilly pieces. If I lived in the south, I might be able to get away with it, but I don't. So, the goal today was to make sure I squeeze every last wear out of my brighter pieces. Here's to living colorfully! Pin It

T-Shirts in the Office

Jacket: DKNY
Skirt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Bag: Kate Spade

I can't go on enough about how I love What I Wore. I check her blog without fail every morning while I eat my breakfast, and catch up with the post from the day before. She has such a refreshing style that's fun, wearable, and easily accessible no matter your budget. Plus, I'm always finding a new way to wear pieces I've had for years. What's not to love?

Naturally, today's outfit is inspired by a relatively recent post from her. Who says t-shirts are just for the gym? If you work in a casual enough environment, you can probably get away with wearing them in the office. However, you have to make sure it's not super baggy or worn, and pair it with other pieces that are more dressed up. I love wearing tee's with pencil skirts, just because they can be neatly tucked in. Now I'll admit, my denim jacket is pretty casual, but I really think it pulls this look together so well - I couldn't go without it!

Think Pink!

Dress: Kate Spade
Cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer
Necklace: Kate Spade
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Bag: Juicy Couture
Sometimes, all it takes is me seeing someone wearing a piece I already own to inspire me to break it out of the closet. Like this pink striped Kate Spade dress. I was browsing Pinterest the other day, and I saw a photo of this woman wearing what looked like a dress I already owned. Upon further inspection, I knew immediately that it was my dress, just in a refreshing royal blue. After seeing the post, I was inspired to wear mine to work this week.

After deciding on the dress, I basically went in full force Legally Blonde mode - bring on all the pink! Some people might think that it's overkill, but I love a monochromatic look. Plus, can you ever really have enough pink? Weirdly enough, I don't own pink pumps, but figured I needed something neutral to keep this from being too over  the top for my liking. Pin It

School Spirit!

Shirt: college bookstore
Skirt: Kate Spade
Necklace: Claire*s
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Bag: Longchamp

While I may not be going back to school this year (which I'm still not sure how I feel about), I have no problem sporting my pieces from my alma mater all the time. So, when my office day announced that we were doing a college spirit day, I was excited to participate.

To take this basic cotton t-shirt from lounge wear to business casual, I tucked it in to a neat navy blue pencil skirt. I thought about belting it to really pull this together, but ending up nixing that at the last moment and adding a double strand of pearls instead. With the addition of shiny nude pumps and my beloved Longchamp, I think this outfit perfectly shows my support of my alma mater.

Please note, as soon as I got to work, one of my more ignorant coworkers asked if my school was even real. In case you weren't sure, it is

Avocado Black Bean Salad

Let me tell you something: looks can really be deceiving. Like this salad, for instance. It doesn't look super tasty, I can tell you that just looking at this photo. But if you can get past the photo to get the ingredients and whip together this super simple avocado black bean salad, I think you'll agree that this is simply delicious.

What makes it even better? It's healthy, easy, and you probably have most of the ingredients on hand. I enjoyed eating this fresh and creamy salad on its own, but I also think it would be great on top of mixed greens or with tortilla chips. Enjoy!

-1 can of black beans, rinsed and drained
-1 tomato, seeded and chopped
-1 small red onion, finely diced
-half a bunch of green onions
-half a bunch of cilantro
-1 jalapeno, seeded and chopped
-1 avocado, cubed
-1 lime
-2 tablespoons of olive oil
-1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
-1 teaspoon of cumin

1. Add your black beans, tomato, red onion, scallions and jalapeno to your bowl.

2. Scoop your avocado out of the skin, and cube. Add to the bowl.

3. Throw in the pepper and cumin, and the juice of one lime.

4. Drizzle the olive oil over the mixture, and toss until everything is well mixed. Top with fresh cilantro.
