101 in 1001: May 2014

It's the last day of the month, so I'm here with a quick update on my 101 in 1001 days list. I don't feel like very much was accomplished this month, but I know there will be months like this some times.

2. Visit a new state.
Michigan! My whole family went out to visit my half-sister for a week this month, and we had the absolute best time. Here's a selfie of my mom, older brother, and myself just before hitting the road.

11. Read 20 new books. (Labor Day)
I held off on reading this for a long time, but over Memorial Day weekend (ha!) I ended up reading the whole thing in about two sittings. I loved it! Now I just have to see the movie! Have you been noticing a trend of what I've been reading the last few months...?

78. Try three new foods. (Radishes)
I've just never had radishes before, but I ended up having them while in Detroit, oddly enough. I did not like them.

97. Go to an amusement park.
The first weekend in May, we decided spur of the moment to go to Kings Dominion for the day because it was just gorgeous outside. Easily one of the best decisions we've made! The weather was beautiful, and there was hardly anyone there as it was so early in the season. We hardly had to wait in line for anything - it was a perfect day.

Navy and Polka Dotted

Jacket: DKNY
Shirt: Victoria's Secret
Skirt: Tommy Hilfiger
Shoes: Vera Wang
Necklace: Nordstrom

After a brief hiatus, I'm back with my regularly scheduled outfit posts! As you can imagine, I haven't been wearing anything too exciting. The whole week before my vacation, I was going in at about 6:15 in the morning, so I was throwing on the first things I found - usually jeans and a simple t-shirt. During times like these when I'm in crunch mode, I'm so glad that I work in such a casual environment. One less thing that I have to be concerned about! Then, the night before my week-long vacation, I was up at midnight packing. Which means, you guessed it, I had a random assortment of items from my wardrobe that sort of went together.

Anyway, so this morning I was getting ready, thinking about what I was going to wear. I thought about this combination in my head and thought I'd better write it down, as it was raining and I didn't really feel like getting cute. Then, I did a total about-face, and decided I felt like dressing like a functioning member of society. So happy I changed my mind! Even though I'm not having the best hair day, I still felt pretty in my patriotic inspired outfit.

A week in Instagram

Hello, my poor neglected blog! I've missed you terribly. I spent all last week on vacation road-tripping to Michigan to visit my half sister and her family, and the week before that preparing to take a week off of work (aka working 11-12 hour days). So, there really was no time to blog, or even think about blogging. But I'm back, and ready to get back in the swing of things!

Through I would kick it off with my week in Instagram post. Lots of great photos from my road trip.

P.S. - Follow me on Instagram and Twitter to stay up to date with me!

1. A tasty raspberry macaron from my cupcake and macaron tour in Georgetown.

2. Driving down the darkest, loneliest road in Ohio. Also known as the Ohio turnpike.

3. First major stop in Ohio - the Football Hall of Fame in Canton. Although I am not a football fan in the slightest, this was a great stop. I learned a lot (obviously), and found the museum was very interactive.

4. Continuing on the road in Detroit, and we passed the exit for 8 mile. I had to take a photo!

5. In the largest (seriously) Christmas store in the country in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Definitely a tourist trap, but we had a lot of fun.

6. The only authentic working Dutch mill in the United States in Holland, Michigan. We were so lucky to stop by while the tulips were in bloom - there are more than 100,000 on the island. Just beautiful!

7. Finishing up our trip with a afternoon Detroit Tigers game. It ended up being a major blow out, but I had the best time! Plus, got to check off another baseball stadium.

8. Reminiscing with a store-brand (non Flinstones) orange sherbet push-up pop. Yum!

On Casual Work Wear

Top: BCBGeneration
Necklace: BCBG Max Azria
Jacket: DKNY
Pants: J. Brand
Shoes: Kate Spade

I love that I work in an environment where I can dress casually. It's seems like such a little privilege, but it's something that I have began to take for granted. Everyday as my fiance and I get ready for work, I feel very fortunate that I'm not limited to the "work" section of my closet. Of course, while not everything I own is appropriate, I do my best to incorporate pieces that I may not have considered as okay for work in the past.

Today's outfit is an example of something super casual that I know wouldn't work in business formal work environment. Oddly enough, wearing something like this is more dressed up than more than 50 percent of the people that I work with. But moving on, it's a light, spring-y look that I love and am comfortable in. I've had this tank forever, but I can't even think of the last time I wore it. I saw it in my closet this morning, and knew it would be the perfect thing to wear for the nice weather we've been having. I paired it with white jeans, a fitted denim jackets, and sparkly gold gladiators (another forgotten summer favorite).

Client Ready

Blazer: L.K. Bennett
Shirt: I.N.C
Pants: Juicy Couture
Shoes: Vera Wang

This week, one of my new clients was coming to my office to meet me, and go over their goals of using our service. Now, typically I just wear whatever I feel like wearing to work (whether it's something dressy or more relaxed), but I knew I wanted to look more presentable for my meeting. However, not too dressy, as I had a feeling the client would be on the more casual side. Thankfully, I was right.

So, it was a little tricky trying to choose what I would wear. In the end, I decided to pick some of my favorite pieces that I am most comfortable in, and don't require constant adjusting. Boot-cut dark wash jeans, plain black flats, and a fitted black blazer. To add some personality to my otherwise basic outfit, I chose this printed top that I stole from my mom forever ago. Overall, I felt very pulled together and professional for my meeting, and it went off without a hitch!

A week in Instagram

I'm seriously thankful for the great weather the past couple of weeks. It's been just wonderful to spend time outside in the sun again, and enjoy warm weather activities! Here's what the last week or so has looked like through Instagram

P.S - Follow me on Twitter or Instagram to stay up-to-date with me!

1. My first cinnamon sugar donut fresh out of the oven, coated with a thin layer of melted butter and cinnamon sugar.

2. Feeling pretty and sporting Rimmel London's moisture renew lipstick (c/o Influenster).

3. First Nationals game of the season, which coincided with pups in the park day. The best!

4. Yes, my mom still makes me an Easter basket. I can't say it enough, she's the best!

5. Looking up and checking out fresh blooms in the neighborhood.

6. I know I've already mentioned this, but finally have my own business cards!

7. Spontaneous day trip to Kings Dominion with my fiance. Seriously, one of the most wonderfully perfect days in awhile.

8. Taking in Kings Dominion from 250 feet in the air. Completely scary, but I'm happy I snapped a quick picture!

On Wednesdays...

Shirt: Gap
Scarf: Kate Spade
Pants: Michael Kors
Shoes: Hunters

I'm two days late in posting this, but when am I not behind on my posts? Hey, at least they are getting done - that's all that matters. Anyway, as many of your probably know, this Wednesday (April 30), marked the tenth anniversary of the debut of Mean Girls. For the occasion, I couldn't resist pulling out some of my favorite pink pieces.

Among those, is my new Kate Spade scarf that I got in my Easter basket. Funny story, my mom actually got me this heart printed one first, but then the weekend before I mentioned that I had already bought it (not knowing she had already bought it as a surprise for me). So, because she's the best mom ever, she switched it out for the one shown above originally purchased for herself. I am so lucky to have such a selfless mom who, in addition, has fabulous taste in clothing.
