101 in 1001: January 2015

In comparison to the last couple of months, this past month was pretty successful, without me having to try to hard! Anyway, here's what I was able to accomplish in the past month.

9. Make a family yearbook for 2013.
This took a lot longer than I thought it would! But it's finally done. Unfortunately, the books took so long to print (and for me to make), that they weren't done in time for Christmas. I've decided to save them as a birthday gift for my dad this year.

48. Go one month without buying anything non-essential.
Surprisingly easier than I thought! I consider essentials to be food (including going out to eat), gas, and medicine/etc. I think this was so easy to immediately after the holidays because I didn't really want things that I normally want (clothes, make-up, etc.)

56. Purge my closet, and donate anything I don’t wear.
This was my first task of the new year, and I'm so happy this was finally accomplished! When I move later this year, I'm determined not to take anything with me that I won't want later, so this was my first step in doing it. I donated a lot to charity, but am selling a lot of my nicer pieces.

75. Try meatless Monday for one month.
I started doing this in December, but it's something that I started taking more seriously this month. I am a big meat and potatoes eater, so this is pretty hard for me and I eat a lot of the same things (spaghetti with vodka sauce, black bean burgers, guacamole, grilled cheese, soup, etc). I'd really like to continue doing this, but am curious to see how this will go as Lent starts!

Owl Sweater Love

Sweater: French Connection UK
Pants: J. Crew
Shoes: Vera Wang

This week, I prepared the best I could for some seriously awful winter weather. All of the forecasts called for snow, ice, and sleet. Lucky for the DMV region, the predictions were pretty off track, and we weren't hit nearly as hard as we were expected to be. And lucky for me, my work ensembles didn't have to suffer. Priorities, right? ;)

While cleaning out all my clothes on New Year's Day (conquering my first 101 in 1001 task this year), I rediscovered this sequined sweater. I think I bought it two years ago in NYC, and it got buried in my cedar chest sometime after that trip. I'm embarrassed that I completely forgot about it so long, but sometimes it's kind of nice to find an uncovered treasure within your own closet. Now that I have found it, I've been wearing it all the time! It's a fun piece that pretty much requires little extra work for the rest of my outfit.

Winter Floral

Cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer
Dress; Milly
Tights: HUE
Boots: BCBGeneration
Belt: Target

I'm telling you, taking the time to get dressed and pull myself together in the morning makes a huge difference in my attitude. I stand up a little straighter, walk with my head high, and overall feel more confident. Most mornings, I am too tired to care, but recently I've been putting in more effort. For now, at least.

I got this dress while shopping in NYC this winter, and just like the dress I wore in the last post, it's really more of a summer dress based on material alone. However, I think the deep colors make it more appropriate for the fall and winter, as long as it is worn with appropriate layers. I started with deep royal purple tights that not only keep my legs warm, they suck everything in so I look long and lean. On top, although I had initially thought about wearing my black blazer again, I wanted to keep this more casual so I switched into this bright coral cardigan.

From Summer to Winter

Blazer: L.K. Bennett
Dress: Betsey Johnson
Necklace: Kate Spade
Boots: BCBGeneration

When I bought this dress last summer, I instantly fell in love. I knew it would be great to wear in my office with a cardigan and flats, with a jean jacket and sandals for date night, or on its own for just about anywhere else! Being me though, it's not just good enough to wear one something for just one season, I like to wear as much of my wardrobe that I can year round!

To make this light-weight dress winter ready, I paired it with thick tights, a basic black blazer, a chunky necklace, and studded leather boots. I love how this turned it! I think the black and dark magenta make balance out the femininity of this floral dress.

Back to the Daily Grind

Cardigan: Lilly Pulitzer
Shirt: Theory
Pants: Kate Spade
Shoes: Lucky Brand
Belt: Michael Kors

After what felt like one of the longest breaks ever, last week I returned to the office for my first full week in nearly a month! The few days I had been in the office before the holidays no one had been there, and naturally I didn't feel much like getting dressed up. Now that everyone is back, I'm definitely going to make more of an effort into my appearance.

One of my favorite pieces I got over the break were these gray legging-like pants from Kate Spade. I have always been strongly against wearing leggings as pants outside of your own home, and was a little nervous that these were in the gray area. However, they are much thicker than leggings (like J.Crew minnie pants), have a zipper, and are not see through, so I think I am in the clear! I decided as my bottom half was more casual to look a little more professional on top with my favorite button up shirt and a luxurious cream colored cashmere cardigan.

Date Night

Dress: Kate Spade
Pin: Ban.do
Tights: Betsey Johnson
Shoes: Vera Wang
Earrings: H&M

My fiance and I don't do date night nearly often enough. Most weekends, we're way too tired from the work week to do much of anything, and end up staying in watching movies, playing Mario Kart, or doing absolutely nothing. However, for my birthday this year, I really wanted to go to a fancy restaurant, so we went to Wildfire in Tysons Corner - one of my favorite steakhouses in the area.

On the day of our big date, it was absolutely frigid outside, and pouring down rain. Despite the nasty weather, I was determined to get dressed up and look cute for the special occasion. After going through all of my dresses, I finally decided on this hot-pink Kate Spade dress. I got a couple of weeks ago at the Nordstrom clear the rack sale, and I absolutely love it! To make it a little more special, I added the sequined gold heart pin that I got from Christmas to the bow.

Birthday Shopping

Shirt: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Vest: J. Crew
Pants: J.Crew
Scarf: Kate Spade
Shoes: Tory Burch

Every year, my mom takes me shopping for my birthday, and this year was no exception. We always have the best time looking for great bargains (my mom scored Tory Burch pants for just $14!), stopping for lunch at Nordstrom Cafe, and just spending time together catching up. I dress for comfort and practicality, so I kept my outfit simple with my favorite pair of dark jeans, a comfortable t-shirt, and broken-in flats.

This year ended up being extra special, as I ended up purchasing my wedding dress! This was something I had absolutely no intention of buying going in, but we ended up in the Nordstrom bridal shop and they had a sample sale. Although I didn't have an appointment (and you are supposed to make one), they let me come in anyway and try some options on. I found one dress that I just fell in love with, and just couldn't turn it down. This years shopping trip was very special, indeed!

Winter Plaid

Shirt: Juicy Couture
Dress: Lauren Ralph Lauren
Shoes: Tory Burch

When I saw this dress on a mannequin while shopping in NYC with my mom a couple of weeks ago, I couldn't decide if I loved it or I hated it. It was too interesting not to try on, so I grabbed my size and brought it with me into the fitting room. Of all the pieces that I grabbed, this was the only item I ended up purchasing! I haven't seen many winter maxi dresses before, and I loved the soft flannel material. The top just has little spaghetti straps, so I layered with a simple black t-shirt on top.

I ended up wearing this outfit to my friend's annual Christmas cookie exchange. Honestly, I was much more comfortable than I normally am in skinny jeans and a nice sweater, plus, this was much more festive and holiday appropriate.

101 in 1001: December 2014

Happy New Year! I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I was only able to cross one thing off my list this month:

9. Make a family yearbook for 2013.
I made this as a Christmas gift for my Dad, but unfortunately I ordered it a bit too late and it didn't arrive in time for the holidays. So, with that being said, I don't have any photos to provide of how it turned out!

Now that the busy holiday season is just about over, I am looking forward to getting back on track, and crossing off many of the items that are on my list!
