Basic Fall Outfit

Vest: J. Crew
Shirt: J. Crew
Scarf: Target
Pants: Eileen Fisher
Purse: Coach
Shoes: Lucky Brand

This is what I would like to call my basic fall outfit. It's a combination of every woman's favorite items to wear on the crisp, cool days of autumn. Scarf? Check. Quilted puffer vest in a neutral color? Check. Classic, brown, leather riding boots? Check!

Last Sunday, I headed home for dinner with my family to celebrate my youngest brother's 22nd birthday. I didn't know what we'd been doing other than having dinner, but I figured I'd need to lend a hand in the kitchen, and I would be lounging on the floor playing cards with my brothers and their girlfriends. This outfit was very comfortable, and I was so glad I wore layers (since my mom still doesn't have the heat on).

A Week in Instagram

Alright, so I'm still trying to catch up on my old Instagram photos, so the first shot in this series was taken in August, and the last one was taken in October. But, progress is progress, and I am happy to be slowly getting caught up on everything.

1. I never thought I would come to grow so close to my coworkers, but when you're spending 40+ hours a week with them - it's hard not to. So when one piece of the three musketeers moves to California, you know we couldn't let her leave without a party.

2. Free pizza and great company? Count me in. Add in gelato and an absolutely picture perfect late August evening and I'm one happy girl.

3. Spending the last (unofficial) weekend of summer in Atlantic City with my favorite person.

4. Imagine my surprise when my college roommate surprised me and showed up for my bridal shower. There were a lot of tears, but at least they were the happy ones.

5. If you're going to go to a Nationals game, you've got to take at least one picture to prove you were there, or it didn't happen. Right?

6. Celebrating my lovely girlfriend's bridal shower! I'm so excited to be a part of her special day.

7. On my last day at my job, I enjoyed taking in an absolutely breathtaking sunrise over the Potomac River. While I will miss the view, there's not too much else (other than my coworkers) that I will miss.

8. Hanging out with my bridesmaids just moments before walking down the aisle. It's crazy for me to remember that all of your preparation boils down to just one day in the thousands of days that make up life.

Rediscovering My Closet

Dress: NUE by Shani
Necklace: Kate Spade
Tights: Betsey Johnson
Shoes: Coach

I think I mentioned this a few posts back, but I have been seriously loving rediscovering all of my favorite pieces in my closet. This knit magenta dress has been a favorite for a while, but I never bothered dressing up at my old office so it went unnoticed.

It was a little chilly this morning, so I pulled on some fun printed tights (when did I become so practical?) and through on a chunky necklace before heading out the door. Of course, when I left the office this evening it was a beautiful, warm day, but I always forget to think about that when I get ready!

Hand Me Downs

Dress: Old Navy
Belt: Target
Shoes: C. Wonder
Necklace: gift

Who doesn't love hand-me-downs? I know I do. Other than stealing from my mom, I'm usually not the recipient of castoffs. Rather, I am the one who is always cleaning out my closet, getting rid of pieces that aren't my taste anymore or don't fit. So imagine how happy I was when one of my old coworkers let me know she had two huge garbage bags filled with clothes she was taking over to a consignment shop. I was all over it!

I spent a full morning trying on all of her hand me downs, and fell in love with a lot of pieces. However, my closet is already filled to the brim, so I knew I could only keep my absolute favorite pieces. This fit and flare, three quarter sleeve dress was one I had to make room for. I've always thought this shade of turquoise pairs really well with my skin tone and red hair, plus, I can't resist anything with three quarter sleeves.

To finish off my look, I pulled out these chunky, leopard print pumps that probably haven't seen the light of day for about two years, and kept my dress fitted with a skinny, gold glitter belt.

A Week in Instagram

Well, it's been a ridiculously long time since I posted what I've been up to on Instagram, so I figured this was a good way as any to do some catching up. So without further ado, here's where I've been going, what I've been eating, and everything else in between over the past couple of months.

1. After waiting in a long line at the newest Duck Donuts in the area, I enjoyed a scrumptious maple bacon donut. Their donuts are cake donuts, as opposed to most donut shops which make yeast donuts, and it it had the perfect consistency.

2. Over the Fourth of July weekend (yes, yes, I am REALLY behind) I finally pulled myself together, and straightened my hair and put on some bright lipstick in what felt like the first time in forever.

3. That same day, I met up with two of my college friends to see Pixar's newest movie, Inside Out! I assume by this point that the movie is now out on DVD, and I've added it to my Christmas list.

4. Doing my part in promoting Virginia tourism and posing with the "Virginia is for Lovers" signage.

5. Enjoying happy hour with some of my favorite coworkers in old town Alexandria.

6. This summer, I was lucky enough to see Taylor Swift in concert when she stopped in DC. Now, don't shoot me, but I am not the biggest TayTay fan. That being said, I had SO much fun at her concert!

7. Late in July, my three bridesmaids kidnapped my over the weekend for my bachelorette party! After driving for about five hours, we wound in NYC - one of my favorite cities. We spent that Friday evening catching up all night, and enjoyed a late brunch on Saturday morning.

8. That evening, we headed out for a night on the town. We bought tickets to see Kinky Boots, and bar hopped the rest of the evening. It was a blast!

9. When I want a perfectly-cooked, juicy burger, I got to Melt in Leesburg. This family owned spot is super tiny, but has been a mainstay in the area for years and is always packed. I always order the bacon cheeseburger with a side of loaded cheese fries.

10. Just like every August, I made the trip with my family to Pittsburgh for our annual family reunion. First stop? PNC Stadium to see the 'Bucs take on the Dodgers.

I've got quite a few more photos to share, but figured that's enough for next time. Stay tuned!

Casual Friday...Or Not.

Top: I.N.C
Skirt: BCBG Max Azria
Tights: HUE
Shoes: BCBGeneration
Belt: J. Crew
Necklace: vintage

I'm a little bit behind on posting, but this is what I wore on my first "casual Friday" at my new job! Unfortunately, I didn't know that casual wear was allowed on Fridays (better to be safe than sorry, especially in my first week), but you better know I will be wearing my favorite jeans and soft tees for this week.

Even though I was definitely more dressed up than everyone else in my office, I still absolutely love this outfit! I stole this printed top from my mom several years ago, and found it to be the perfect piece to wear with just about everything - from basic denim, to black slack, and everything in between. To keep this interesting, I played off the blue by pairing my top with opaque blue tights, and a skinny blue belt.

Smooth Transition

Dress: Nanette Lepore
Tights: HUE
Shoes: Kate Spade
Jewelry: gift

It's funny how easy it can be to transition sometimes. I went from a daily uniform of jeans and a simple cotton tee paired with a scarf and flats, to pulling out dresses, jewelry, and heels that haven't seen the light of day in months! I know I'm still in the first couple of days of my new job, but taking the time to do my make-up and get dressed up every morning makes me feel so much better.

This dress is one of my favorites. Much like most of my frequently worn pieces, it was stolen from the depths of my mom's closet. An added bonus? It has pockets (!), and the sweetest keyhole cut-out right under the collarbone. It's already quite a bit chillier than it was on Monday, so I added an extra layer for warmth with these thick tights, and slipped on my new patent leather black flats.

Black and Blue

Dress: Rebecca Taylor
Tights: DKNY
Shoes: BCBGeneration
Jewelry: gift

While I was still working in my old office, one day a co-worker of mine casually mentioned that she was going to see Shania Twain in concert that evening. No big deal, right? For some reason, that reignited my love for her music. That day, I found myself lost in a black hole, listening to all of my old favorite songs (Come On Over was one of my first CD's!). I went from streaming eStreet radio all day to rocking out to Shania Twain in the office, in my car, at home - wherever.

This is a long winded explanation for my theme for today's outfit, inspired by Twain's "Black Eyes, Blue Tears." Whenever I pair black and blue together, I can't help of think of this song! I know it's considered a "faux-pas" to wear the two together, but when have I ever really cared about those?

I'm Back!

Cardigan: Calvin Klein
Dress: Tory Burch
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Bracelet: Nordstrom

Well, hello! I am back. Almost every time I go an extended period of time without posting, I almost always say it's "never going to happen again," and then it does. I know we have a lot of catching up to do, so here we go!

In the last three-ish months, I moved (just a neighborhood over), quit my job, got married, went on my honeymoon, AND started a new job (yesterday)! Needless to say, it's been a hectic couple of months. However, now that I have quit my insane job, I am starting little by little trying to get my life back together, and doing some of things I love - like blogging!

As you can probably guess, this is what I wore on my first day of work at my new office. Coming from my last job which had a very casual "dress code," getting dressed up again is going to be an adjustment. However, I really do enjoy pulling myself together, and have a lot of clothes that I am excited to have a reason to wear again.

While going through my closet for my perfect first day outfit (just like going back to school), I couldn't resist pulling out this dress. Although it's clearly the middle of October and fall, when you get a perfect, 75 degree, sunny day, you take advantage of it!
